Today we’d like to introduce you to John Riddle
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am the author of 34 books with a variety of traditional publishers, and so far have self-published 3 books for writers. My byline has appeared in major publications all across the U.S., and I have written articles for over 200 websites.
In 2002 I launched “I Love To Write Day” as a grassroots campaign to have people of all ages spend time writing every November 15th.
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of ILTWD, I published the “I Love To Write Day Creative Writing Journal” on Amazon. It contains 30 Creative Challenges, plus tips from 87 experts from all around the globe on how to be more creative.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
In High School, I had to ignore the advice of my English teacher: “You should consider a career as a manual laborer.”
For nearly 5 years I collected rejection slips, but finally got my first byline!
Have been going strong ever since.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
For nearly 15 years I was on the road teaching workshops at writing conferences and literary events all across the United States.
I love to encourage people to use their gift of creative communication, which is part of the reason I launched “I Love To Write Day” back in 2002.
I am most proud of the many success stories from people who have attended my workshops and gone on to get published and make money as a freelance writer.
There are many, many, many success stories from all across the United States from people who have celebrated I Love To Write Day since I launched it in 2002.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
There are too many to pick just one!
But getting my first typewriter is high on the list.
