Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeffrey Hunter
Hi Jeffrey, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started as a pre-PA biology graduate from the University of North Texas. I then transitioned to screenwriting after I had my life literally turned upside down by Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. I’m now one year out from having graduated with my MFA in Writing for the Screen and Stage from Northwestern University. Since then, I’ve been the narrative designer for “Pour Decisions”, a narrative driven game, soon to go up on itch.io at the end of this summer. And I’m currently producing and writing an audio drama series titled “O.R.I.O.N.” for a Spring 2025 release.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I struggled with imposter syndrome very early on in my MFA career after crossing disciplines. My cohort validated my voice as an artist and my writing to help me escape that mentality. Now that I’ve graduated and found longer-term projects to write for, the biggest struggle has been work-life balance!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m first and foremost a writer. I specialize in writing for audio, video games, and animation. I’ve also worked on interactive audio plays in association with Second Site and Living Room Playmakers in Chicago, IL. I’m most proud of the work we’re putting together right now for “O.R.I.O.N.”
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
My favorite book is probably Fahrenheit 451, not just because of it’s perspective on censorship, but also on life. More recent reads also include “The Foundation Series” by Isaac Asimov and the screenplay for “Past Lives” by Celine Song. While working on O.R.I.O.N., I’ve been listening for inspiration to “Birds of Empire” by Jason Lew and produced by Q-Code. I’m also tuning into “Derelict” by J. Barton Mitchell and produced by Night Rocket.
