Today we’d like to introduce you to Jared Mcphoy
Hi Jared , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Jared McPhoy. I am currently a Graduate Senior Assistant Master at Annandale Secondary, a part time lecturer at the Cyril Potter College and Education and a writer of a self published memoir: ‘By Grace Through Faith: A journey of Self-Discovery.” Upon completion of secondary school I attended the Cyril Potter College of Education where I became a Grade 1 Class 1 Educator (trained). After my first year of teaching I started the University of Guyana where I pursued my Bachelor’s Degree In Education- Secondary (English). This enabled me to become the part time lecturer that I am today, got me into volunteering at the Guyana Learning Channel and into many other opportunities within the Education system. As a result of me completing my degree in the pandemic, I felt the strong urge in those months of isolation to start writing my book and even though it took me a while to accept that I was capable I did and now I’m self published.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I have had to overcome self doubt, a low self esteem and self worth. I grew up feeling very rejected in many spaces in my life so I tend to keep to myself or overcompensate my likability when around others. One thing I have come to realize is that my life is a series of bold moves, this is so because I am extremely intrinsically motivated, Everything people say I can’t do, I like to prove them wrong especially academically which has been a safe haven for me, People have also always made assumptions about my sexuality and I’ve Iet them for a long time. People in my community and high school have mocked me greatly for their assumption. I spent a lot of years in torment and I tried to hide it from those close to me especially my mom,
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’ve been an educator for about seven years. I am responsible for planning termly scheme, lesson plans, executing those lessons, evaluating them and supporting the school in which ever way needs be. I viewed my role as more of a mentor with my students, I spend large portions of my time encouraging my students to become whatever they dream of. Dream with barriers and go after it with everything they have especially my female students. I want them to feel empowered to know that their life can be more than what society and culture dictates. I specialize in teaching English Language and Literature. I am know for my excellence in delivering the Literature curriculum. Ever since grade 7, I found myself having a special connection to books, I find pieces of myself in them hence when I go to teach this subject I am able to transform the classroom.
I am most proud of the quality of students I have produced over the years. Students who write or message showing me that they are pursuing their dreams. It warms my heart to go after more of my dreams, What sets me apart from others would be my work ethic, I lead with PASSION. No one has a passion like mine. I am someone whose words you can trust. I am also loyal, dedicated, determined and professional.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Currently I am working on pivoting from Education and moving full time in become an artist. Persons can support my self published memoir: ‘By Grace Through Faith: A Journey of Self Discovery” available on Amazon in paperback and Kindle.
