Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie Roitman.
Jamie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m a professionally trained opera singer. It was the height of the pandemic and all of my contracts were canceled. I still needed to express myself artistically. I tried a few different things, learned I couldn’t sew and knitting wasn’t fulfilling enough. I taught myself resin art and starting posting my creations on social media for fun. People started asking if they were available for purchase and that’s when a business was born.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I do my best to stay on top of current trends both in and outside of the field so that way I’ll have what customers want. I also like to keep relationships with other artists and businesses so I can collaborate.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m an opera singer turned epoxy resin artist. I create a lot of pieces for the home and also gifts for holidays, birthdays, and other occasions.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
When I started experimenting with resin, it look me a long time to figure out how to make it work correctly. I needed to try out a few different brands, purchase certain materials, and work in a few different environments. Resin is temperamental and I needed the patience to succeed. I would advise anyone who is starting out in any field to be patient with yourself, expect a lot of trial and error, and give yourself time!
