Today we’d like to introduce you to Jalen Johnson.

Hi Jalen, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Well, to sum it all up, I grew up in a Christian household so I was raised in the church by my parents and grandparents and the whole church community in the neighborhood. I used to love going up to sing in the choir with my family & then as I grew older I started to gain a real love for not just singing but music in general. Fast forward a few years later, we lose the King Of Pop and the world is shut down and I’m about 7-8 years old so I barely knew who he was at that time & his music, his story, just everything Michael Jackson brought to the culture was something different. I feel like that could never be done again or forgotten in history. I wanted to become that. I wanted to be like Michael, so as a kid I used all the time I had to study him. His moves, his music, the choreography, everything down to a T. One day, my mom caught me dancing one night and asked me “Why don’t you sing while you dancing?”. That made me realize the true purpose of entertainment, showcasing your best capabilities. That’s not easy to do, especially as a kid, but there’s always love in it even as an adult. Studying the greats & applying what works for you when you get the answer is what got me to where I am and where I’m headed. If it wasn’t for my family & the ones who paved the way, I wouldn’t even be interviewed right now. Humble moments like this keep me encouraged.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Trust me, no road is smooth when you’re playing an opinion based sport. Where judgement & criticism are right at your door. But with a strong mental and heart, no one’s words should dictate how you feel about yourself. I’ve had a long journey with insecurities, depression, anxiety, things of that nature. But I have a very dedicated support system who really believes in my dream just as much as I do so it covers up the bumps enough for me to keep cruising. There’s only so much a human can contain when under pressure as an artist in this industry. Just keeping great people around and maintaining a level head, building your relationship with God just makes you forget the conditions and helps you focus on the journey, the beauty of it; not the destination.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a singer-songwriter, dancer, musician, producer, engineer, actor, you name it. I’m an independent artist based in Philadelphia, home of the GOAT’s. Most people know me from my feature in my homie CurlyBamm’s “Song to You”, my 2016 single called “Voicemail” and as a content creator, I’ve seen and participated in almost every dance era in Gen Z but I’m mostly famous for the HitDemFolks/NaeNae era back in 2017. I have hella viral videos on YouTube & Instagram and now I be snapping with my brother Corey Floca and the guys with the Philly Club wave and my boy got the city on lock! I’m definitely most proud of my dawgs for never quitting on themselves and staying true to the game. I’m also proud of receiving recognition from LEGENDS like Chris Brown, Lyfe Jennings, Musiq Soulchild and many other amazing artists! I think what sets me apart from others is my authenticity. Most people want to stand out just with their style in music but I hold a lot of authenticity in my character so my music can not just feel real but so the consumer can even visualize my music.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Shout out to my brother Mr Moore the King at King Status Podcast. They had me on there as their first artist and I can’t even be bias, my brothers drop free gems on KSP. The support is real and the hosts are just as real shouts out to them man.
