Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Linder
Hi Hannah, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I first realized I love to write at twelve years old, when I ambled into the kitchen and found my mom reading a Christmas letter. “Did you know your second cousin is writing a novel?” she asked me. I shrugged, thought about it a moment, then said, “I think I’ll do that.” My mom smiled—imagining, I suppose, that I would give it a chapter or two, then move on to more diverting childhood pleasures.
But the first chapter in, I was hooked. A sense of elation—of bubbling joy—surged through me every time I pressed my fingers to the keyboard and wrote the next scene.
After completing and self-publishing my first novel at twelve, I continued to write throughout my teen years. When I had ten books under my belt, I began attending writers conferences, pitching my work, and seriously seeking representation.
Quickly after I signed with my current literary agent, we landed a three-book contract with a traditional publishing houses. I now have four books released with Barbour Publishing, two more under contract, and big plans ahead. I’m so thankful to the Lord—and everyone who has encouraged me on this journey—as I live out my childhood dreams.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
As my mom always reminds me, “If it was easy, everyone would be doing it.” The path to publication was not always as bright, sweet, and painless as it feels in retrospect. I remember crying because an editor once said I didn’t know how to tell a story. I remember staying up all night long to pull a crucial editing spree. I remember sitting at appointment after appointment, with my stomach in knots, as I stuttered through pitches—only to receive more rejections.
Was it discouraging? Absolutely.
Did I think I wouldn’t make it? Yeah, sometimes.
But like they say, you love what you work for. Had the road been paved, had there been no bumps, I don’t think I would get that same sense of overwhelming satisfaction when I brush my fingers along the spines of my own books. I love being an author. I love it more because it wasn’t easy.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a Christian fiction, Regency romantic suspense author who writes stories about secrets, danger, and passion. Although Regency is a hot genre right now, many novels set in 1800s England mimic Jane Austen in style—the glorious balls, the social circles, the complications of navigating the marriage mart.
My books add in a gothic twist—sucking you into the Regency setting, but in a darker light. If you enjoy murder mysteries, nail-biting suspense, and beloved historical characters, you might enjoy my work.
My favorite so far is “Garden of the Midnights”, released with Barbour Publishing, available anywhere books are sold.
