Today we’d like to introduce you to George Denis.
Hi George, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Music has always been a part of my life, but as a child, you don’t think much about it—you simply enjoy the music. Looking back, I realize I always had melodies and rhythms playing in my head. My journey into music felt natural, almost inevitable, as if I was drawn into this world. I felt a deep need to express myself through music, and it became my way of communicating emotions and stories.
As a child, I was also deeply inspired by the music I heard, especially in films. The scores of composers like John Williams, Ennio Morricone, Hans Zimmer, and Max Richter had a profound emotional impact on me.
At that point, I knew music would be part of my life in some way, though I never imagined I would become a composer. Once I started playing my first instrument, everything slowly began to fall into place, and I eventually started composing my first piece of music. Looking back on it now, I’m grateful that it led me to where I am today.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Sure, there are always struggles along the way, regardless of the field you’re in. In the end, we must stay true to ourselves, both as humans and as artists, and that’s what I always try to do when I face a challenge, whether personal or professional
When it comes to the professional and creative process, I believe we must remain true to the material and be open to all the possibilities it can develop.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a composer specializing in media composition, creating music for film, TV, and video games to support and enhance storytelling. I believe my work—and music in general—is a form of storytelling in itself. I feel incredibly lucky and grateful to collaborate with talented artists, filmmakers, and orchestras to bring music to life and create unique experiences for audiences.
My proudest achievement is my recent concert with the “Banatul” Philharmonic of Timisoara. Together, we brought to the stage a project important to me personally, “Glas: A Symphonic Interpretation of Bulgarian Music,” which explores my Bulgarian heritage and cultural background through a fresh symphonic lens. Hearing my music performed by these incredible musicians, conducted by Maestro Konstantin Ilievsky, was an unforgettable experience and a significant milestone in my career.
What are your plans for the future?
Following the incredible response to the concert with the Timișoara Philharmonic, my immediate goal is to bring this concert to an international audience—a plan that has already generated significant interest, with many discussions currently underway.
I’m truly excited to share this music with as many people as possible.
Additionally, we will be releasing a live album of the “Glas” concert, performed with the Banatul Philharmonic, on all streaming platforms, beginning of 2025.
