Today we’d like to introduce you to Ezekiel Shrader
Hi Ezekiel, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My older brother bought his first video camera when he was 17 years old, which would make me 7 at the time. With this camera he created a short film of one of our all time favorite video games, and I was his star. He later went on to college for Visual Communications. And in this class he had to make quite a few different films. I was his lead actor in every one of them. This was when I started acting and I haven’t stopped since.
Years later at age 22, I was being silly with a friend by performing voices. He was so awestruck that he urged me to pursue voice acting. I had never thought of myself as a voice artist, but it was something I had always loved to do. Thus began my journey toward voice acting.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My acting career has by no means been an easy one. When pursuing a career that demands so much of yourself you will discover a lot about yourself that you never knew. I learned that I would often self sabotage by making up excuses why I would not be able to submit an audition, accept an acting role, accept modeling jobs, etc… and it was always based on fear. Fear that I just wasn’t good enough.
Another struggle was that I lived in a small town in the middle of nowhere. It was easy to take the easy route out of accepting certain opportunities because the commute was so far away and that the little money I would have made just wasn’t worth the endeavor. Of course, this goes back to making decisions based on fear that I wasn’t good enough, it was simply an excuse.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Primarily, my work has been in commercials and short films along with the occasional full length film. I’ve done work for companies and events such as Peyton Mannings Children’s hospital, Mikes Car Wash, Hays & Sons, Bridal & Wedding Expo, etc… I’ve also had the privilege to work with some amazing actors and celebrities such as Peyton Manning, Keith Szarabajka, Jon Huertas, Drew Powell, Marc Menchaca, and more.
I’d say what sets me apart from a lot of other actors is my ability to play diverse roles, especially in regards to voice acting. I allow the story to control my characters rather than using my characters to try and control the story. This is one way how I achieve authenticity no matter the role.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I’m actually very shy and introverted. But I’ve spent so many years purposefully putting myself in situations that make me uncomfortable, along with years experience in sales, that the majority of people I’ve met have no idea how shy I really am. I’ve just gotten good at being social.
