Today we’d like to introduce you to Emely Viscarra
Hi Emely, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve came out with Sensor E in January of 2021 with the launch of my therapeutic sensory play boxes. By my surprise it was a hit & very successful! Many families found my creation to be of great support in the home which not only kept individuals off electronic devices but gave them the opportunity to be creative and imaginative while gaining skills. Some play boxes were even being used in school setting during break time/OT/Speech sessions or in home ABA sessions. So not was I only able to accommodate the special needs community which was my main focus as I have a son whose non speaking and on the autism spectrum but I was able to help all families. From then on I started to continue creating, customizing & gifting Sensor E Play boxes. Then I started getting invited out for collaborations & community event appearances in different cities & states. It’s such an honor for me to be out in the community as a female entrepreneur/advocate of Polynesian & Latin descent. It’s my pleasure to offer direct services and accommodation for individuals with special needs and offer them something of their interest on the spot. What I find most rewarding about what I do is being able to witness individuals come together, socialize, bond and form friendships despite their differences with a common interest in sensory play. My mission is to spread autism awareness and my purpose is to support individuals on the spectrum and the family by providing either supportive materials/equipments or resources needed. I understand firsthand how challenging and isolating this journey can be and wouldn’t wish this on anyone. For those who battle silent battles daily remember you’re never alone. I’m here to let you know you can always reach out to me. Building your community of support whatever that may look like or whoever it may be is essential. I’ve connected with so many remarkable supportive individuals on my platform who are genuine and caring. They understand me and my experiences and sometimes can relate without me going into so much explanation or details. I love this as my life is exhausting and draining enough.
I would love to pay tribute to my beloved mother Meletonga Finau Vizcarra. If it wasn’t for her modeling of unconditional love and what a great exceptional dedicated devoted mother is then I wouldn’t be the mother I am to my son Elijah Fa’apito U’u. These two individuals; plus my siblings mean the world to me. They’re my greatest support system and understand and see all the behind scenes work I do. The stress and hard work that comes in preparation for any of my executions. When I feel like throwing the towel in & giving up I think of them and gain my strength to continue pushing. Breaking down and having my moments often occurs with pulling so much weight, but giving up can never be an option because if not me; who will? This journey is definitely not for the weak. You have to turn your pain into purpose.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s never a smooth road. If anything it has a lot of bumps. You deal with so many type of individuals; some good some bad. Last minute reach outs & cancellations with no consideration of your time & efforts. Then you have the judgments and opinions you have to hear and read. It can take a toll on you emotionally & mentally . Some individuals are unaware that words can be weapons. Why you have to be strong minded and unfazed. I personally don’t care for what anyone has to say as no one is walking in my shoes and caring for my son directly daily. We’ve been let down & neglected by many schools & service providers so this how I even came about the vision for Sensor E. There’s so much talking & false advertising out there with actions not even following through or matching. Being left behind & not given the same opportunities as everyone else is just isn’t acceptable & fair. But life isn’t fair right!? It’s SUPER unfair for families with those with individual(s) of special needs. As long as I’m alive I’ll do my best in trying to create that change & inclusivity for a cause that I hold close to my heart.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I basically do charity work in communities for my cause ( Autism). I’m not a non profit yet due to personal reasons, but I hope to be soon and meet my end vision goal of opening up a Sensor E building and possibly even turning it into a franchise as it’s definitely in demand & needed. As a stay at home mother/caregiver I’m beyond proud of what I’ve created ( Sensor E) and to witness its growth and expansion. The support and love is real out there and I’m truly thankful and grateful for all those who believe in me and my vision. What makes Sensor E unique & different is that the work is genuinely from the heart. We give so much from the little we have with no hesitation. There’s no long wait or long pointless phone calls for something that should be given & offered automatically. Us ourselves can do it! I personally rely on myself because I’ve been let down too many times! However those moments made me even more powerful & independent.
What matters most to you? Why?
Time. Time is everything & something we don’t get back. I want to make sure I live a purposeful & content life. I cherish every moment; as I know we’re on borrowed time. It’s truly a blessing that I’m able to be with my son daily; knowing he’s safe and well cared for. I invest my time in things & people that align with my vision & morals.
