Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Talbot
Hi Elizabeth , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
For my tenth birthday I was gifted a camera by my parents and spent hours in the backyard photographing anything I could find. After putting the camera down for almost ten years, I finally picked it up again when I signed up for a photography course in college. Although the class was mostly self taught and my interest was mostly in taking a class that didn’t require actual studying, it ended up sparking back up my passion for photography. I ended up taking 3 more courses in photography and declaring it as my minor. Since then, I never put the camera back down.
After graduation in the midst of COVID, I decided to try to make a business out of it. All these years later, here I am, a full time photographer who couldn’t imagine doing anything else.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Nothing in life is a completely smooth road, especially when running a business. Deciding to go full time was definitely scary and I have had so many lessons learned along the way. Running a business, of any kind is incredibly hard, especially when you are doing it on your own, with no one to tell you how. From navigating taxes, to just how much it costs to operate a business, to dealing with difficult clients, it has definitely been stressful. I have made mistakes just like everyone else, but I have learned from them and I am realizing that I get better everyday because of the things I wish I did differently in the past. I feel very lucky to have so many incredible clients that outweigh the bad and as stressful as it can be, I love my job.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a photographer specializing in al things couples, including engagement, elopement, and weddings, I love capturing love and am so passionate about being able to show feelings and joy in a photo. I am proud to have come as far as I have all on my own but what I am most proud of is how many incredible people support me. Not just my friends and family, but people that were strangers just months or years prior. People like other vendors, past or future clients and their friends and family, make me feel valued, talented, and always cheer me on – and it truly means the world.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Every single person who has referred me, hired me, left me a kind review, or just made sure I knew I was doing a good job, means the world to me. I am a bit of a people pleaser, especially through my work, so knowing people are happy with their experience makes such a difference.
I have some of the most incredible clients who put in the effort to get to know me as a person, to make me feel more like a friend than a vendor, or even just to do what they can to support my business. I feel incredibly lucky for so many people I have met through this job.
