Hi Curtis, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started wanting to share a set of practical, rational, spiritual solutions that had worked so well for me with the world. I set out into the world of YouTube and was overwhelmed by the receptivity I found there. And after a few unexpected twists and turns (I would call it divine providence) I ended up getting to do this thing that I so love to do.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There have been both bumpy and smooth times in my personal and professional lives. I’ve found that for some reason, I go through some kind of personal crisis every 3-6 years or so. It’s never fun, but I always experience my most profound growth during and after these periods. So that’s both hard and good at the same time. With my work, there have been times when everything goes easy, everyone likes my ideas and the content I make, the algorithm is good to me. But there are also the opposite times, when I can just helplessly watch as my numbers fall and I worry that this thing will just dry up. I’ve found that you have to be careful not to push yourself too hard, while being sure not to slip into counterproductive bad habits. It’s a bit of a tightrope that I still feel like a beginner in trying to walk effectively.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am the Chief Visionary Officer at the nonprofit Swedenborg Foundation. I am the creator and host of the Off The Left Eye media brand, which tries to provide spiritual solutions to life’s problems. We have over 50 million views and more than 500,000 followers across social media. I am proud of my efforts to try to make complex spiritual concepts accessible, practical, and useful to people.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Relationships matter. Having people who you care about and who care about you is a vital part of being resilient. Build up a strong network that will help buffer you when crises of all kinds come.
