Today we’d like to introduce you to Crissy Timpson
Hi Crissy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I come from a proud military family—my mother served 32 years in the Army and my father for 22. Growing up, my mom always taught me to be independent and to pursue whatever my heart was set on. While I struggled with math in school, I excelled in other areas, like music and writing. At 18, I married my high school sweetheart, moved across the world and just months later, he was deployed. I worked the traditional 9-to-5. and hated the feeling that I was on someone’s time, building someone else’s dream, work never felt fulfilling. I knew I was meant for more and life was meant to enjoy and not just work all the time. Without a college degree, I doubted I’d ever achieve the level of success or income I dreamed of.
Fast forward to today, I’m living proof that success isn’t tied to a degree. It’s not about passing tests or hours spent studying; it’s about problem-solving and finding your path. For me, that path has been government contracting. My company identifies government needs and delivers the solutions they require. I’ve learned that success comes in many forms, and mine just happens to involve creative problem-solving in an industry I love.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road hasn’t always been smooth, but it’s been worth every bump. Early on, I made the smart choice to hire a mentor to guide me, especially when things didn’t go as planned. But some of my biggest challenges were internal—self-doubt and self-sabotage. In government contracting, your mindset is everything. Without a positive outlook and the right atmosphere, it’s easy to get derailed. This applies to any career, really. Whenever I hit a rough patch, I leaned on my mentor’s advice. Having someone who’s been through the same struggles made all the difference and helped me stay on course. The journey may not always be easy, but the rewards make it more than worthwhile.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m the CEO of GYPS which is my government contracting company, and my role as a government procurement specialist means I handle whatever the government needs from start of the project to finish. One of my proudest achievements has been stepping into coaching. I help students secure 6- and 7-figure contracts, transforming their lives and their families’ futures, all while supporting small businesses along the way.
As a black woman thriving in a male-dominated space, I stand out, and it’s important to me that I show other young women that it’s possible. Over the past year, I’ve achieved remarkable success, including making over six figures in profit in just one month for my company. And now, we’re celebrating our first anniversary in the industry on October 23rd 2024! The journey has been incredible, and this milestone is just the beginning.
What’s next?
My plan for the future is to scale my company even further, teach more people about the world of government contracting, and hit $1 million in profit before the year is over. I’m excited for what the new year will bring and the amazing opportunities ahead. I’m also planning to become more active on social media to share more about government contracting. The biggest change? You’ll definitely be seeing a lot more of me! ;)
