Today we’d like to introduce you to Chrystina Casado
Hi Chrystina, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
For the last 5 years, Brunch At Zion’s has transformed the way New York eats brunch. While the brand has revolutionized the corporate and events catering industry in the city. In 2019, Chrystina Casado became one of the only black owned caterers to focus on fresh farm to table ingredients. Crafting a menu of artisanal caribbean & mediterranean fare offering sustainable catering on demand. Inspired by her son Zion and her love of art. Chrystina has instilled her passion about food into beloved signature favorites and exciting new seasonal dishes.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
In 2023 Chrystina was diagnosed with cancer for the 2nd time and had to make one of the hardest decisions of her life. She had to shut down the Bronx location restaurant due to having to pay for her chemotherapy treatments and travel. Brunch At Zion’s is now operating out of a ghost kitchen in Harlem, NY and is open for Delivery, Catering, personal, and private chef services until we find the desired restaurant location in Harlem.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a personal chef and caterer. We specialize in farm to table, organic, and local fare. I am known for thinking outside the box when it comes to flavors. We specialize in Caribbean and Mediterranean food with a down south vibe. I am most proud of beating cancer twice, and being Zion’s Mom. What sets me apart from the others is that I’ve curated a business around my son so that I can raise him and watch him grow in the process and also teach him life skills and Entrepreneurship and servitude towards our community. We provide food that our community isn’t always privy to. Serving our community and food insecure neighborhoods is our goal and pleasure. Our goal is to build , feed, and create within our communities. To provide families the knowledge and the tools to cook for themselves and think outside the box when it comes to food. Be intentional with everything they are putting in their bodies.
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters to me most is God, family and our community. Being a role model for Zion will give him a blueprint of how to build relationships and navigate through life positively.
