Today we’d like to introduce you to Christi Pratte
Hi Christi, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Prior to becoming a writer and opening my writing business, Ghost Girl, I worked 7 years as a kindergarten teacher, kickboxing instructor, barista/coffee house manager, waitress, and tutor (yes, simultaneously!) — all for startups/women owned businesses, which was an incredible foreshadow! During pockets of “free time” I found myself writing (something I’ve always loved to do). This often looked like 4am writing sessions, late nights, and 40 minute spaces between shifts. In 2016 I started my first blog, The Passion Warrior Project (now rebranded into HustlePretty.Co). The blog was a way of expressing my own life experiences and the lessons I was learning, while extending the invitation to anyone else who resonated and wanted to read. Topics heavily centered on resilience, women’s empowerment, redefining success, and embracing purpose. I didn’t set out with any particular intention for the blog, but was surprised to log into my analytics app to see it had reached eyes in over 20 countries! This readership opened up opportunities to become a regular contributor to a handful women’s success magazines starting in 2019. Seeing the impact ink could have was a beautiful feeling, and it expanded my understanding of what was possible. I knew I wanted to contribute in a bigger way, I just wasn’t sure what that would look like or what more was available in the writing industry. Late 2019, I came across a listing on Craigslist for a copywriting position at a global, multi-million dollar women’s empowerment company. While I had no previous education specific to copywriting or robust portfolio to show, I knew I could speak to that audience. So I mustered up enough confidence to apply. To my surprise (once again) I was asked to interview. And a week before the 2020 pandemic, I received the internship for the position. When everything shut down, I was able to take the internship full time given that it was a digital remote position. And a couple months later, I was offered the full time position while gracefully closing the chapters in my other careers. This taught me that God’s timing is always far better than the ones we can plan for ourselves! As times progressed, I noticed the need for women to feel empowered in sharing their stories. That’s when I opened up Ghost Girl — a luxe writing boutique for feminine leaders, specializing in memoirs and brand stories. In July 2023 I took it full time. I’ve been blessed to work with many high-performance women making major waves of change in the world!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
They say entrepreneurship is a crash course in personal development…I can now say this is 100% true! As an entrepreneur you have to get great at being comfortable with constant change and uncertainty. You will also come face-to-face with your own insecurities that you have to move through and work on. Here are some ways to do this: 1. Surround yourself with supportive people! 2. Hire mentors who are further along than you and can help you see your blindspots and accelerate past them 3. Get your mindset right every single morning ( I love podcasts!) 4. KEEP MOVING– this is the only way forward 5. Have faith in the 11th hour miracle — those moments when it feels like it will never happen and then everything happens at once. Ultimately, you have to bet on yourself and know that you have what it takes to make it happen…no matter what!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Writing can be a challenge for many whether that be time constraints, writer’s block, or emotional heaviness and I’m proud that I can use my gift to help women express themselves fully through memoirs or brand messaging. At Ghost Girl, I’m all about the soul (as a born empath, this is where I shine!). I’m committed to really stepping into the shoes of my clients so that I can intuitively write not only in their unique voice, but also to the depths of their story in a way that’s empowering and compelling. Writing is an art, it has a melodic rhythm to it. And I love using a pen as a paintbrush to magnify this vibrancy.
What does success mean to you?
Success to me is being happy, fulfilled, and relentlessly passionate while contributing to a purpose bigger than yourself.
