Today we’d like to introduce you to Carolina Munoz Awad
Hi Carolina, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started as a graduate student in fine arts with a background in architecture. I came to New York to study this program at Parsons, and I had little to no expectations of what my professional future might become—not because I wasn’t excited, but because I had no idea what to expect.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
More than smooth or hard, I think that the road for me has been challenging. It wasn’t just the change of career, but also moving to a new country, learning a new language, and initially being somewhat ignorant about job and immigration processes.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a multidisciplinary artist who specializes in providing solutions and assistance to other artists. I help with manufacturing, organizational tasks, and mostly problem-solving with projects. The use of 3D design tools, rendering, and printing has become very useful these days, and I can provide those services.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
It’s hard to say, because my main mentors and network came from my graduate program. However, something that has also helped me now that I am out of school is attending workshops and smaller member events or meetings that might come up—and trying to participate.
