Today we’d like to introduce you to Cari Byers.
Hi Cari, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
For as long as I can remember I wanted to be a professional dancer.
I started dance class at 3 years old and from that point on that is all I ever dreamed of as a career.
I danced in local companies in Albuquerque, NM in high school. I then continued my education as a Dance Major at ASU.
After graduating I worked in a show in Japan, after returning to the US I auditioned for a Showgirl spot in The Folies Bergere.
I got the spot! I remained in the Showgirl line for the next 12 years until the show closed in 2009. I bounced around for a few years, freelancing as talent, attempting to sit at a desk ( traditional job). Worked on my skills as a costume builder / designer by chance… I then had the chance to take over / purchase an agency I had worked for, Premier Showgirls. That was 11 years ago last month!
I also created and co-produced BurlesQ which ran in Las Vegas for 3 years.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Having worked for 15 plus years in the industry as talent and other facets, I did have a good grasp of how things worked. The most difficult struggles along the way was learning to say no, and learning to prioritize profit not “exposure” . Not all clients are a good fit for me or my company. Gaining company or personal “exposure” in lieu of monetary compensation does not always pay off.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I book talent for all types and sizes of events. I specialize in Real Las Vegas Showgirls in costume. I am proud of the costumes I or my team build, and I am pretty well know for these costumes. My company has quite an inventory of one of a kind costumes for all types of events and talent. We love creating new costumes for events and clients.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Luck, I do have pretty good luck. But I also put it out to the universe what I want, what my goals are etc.
