Today we’d like to introduce you to Antonio Pomares
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve loved geek culture from comics to video games to movies from when I was a kid. One day I asked a work friend if they wanted to make videos about comics, and I was hooked. Being a geek culture broadcaster has been a passion ever since.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not in the slightest. Nothing truly worth it will ever be a smooth road. From trying to be a geek culture broadcaster with with a stutter (that i no longer try to hide) to behind the scenes hiccups, to my Mother stroke, to trying to find my voice in a world that I thought didn’t care, I’ve kept going.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a geek/nerd culture broadcaster. I’ve hosted podcasts, gee culture news shows, written comic book centered questions for the trivia card game Blerd Domination, hosted panel, written comic book reviews for Black Sc-fi.com, done a bit of consulting, and been tapped to be a co-host for the upcoming Black Sci-Fi TV relaunch.
I specialize in giving unbiased, frank discussions, and analysis of geek culture especially Black geek/nerd culture, from comics to movie to hot news topics. I’m fair and unbiased in my takes. I also look to give projects from Black women and Black LGBTQIA+ the spotlight they have earned.
I’m most proud of the Black indie comics culture seeing me and them reaching out for interviews. It shows me that I’m serving a purpose and that was my intention from the start. I give the indie community the platform and respect they deserve and need.
I do my best to give creatives the chance to talk about their projects but also ask them about what they are reading, playing, or watching. I enjoy knowing what creatives are taking in and what they like in their leisure time. I also make it a point to ask about their self care and how they maintain mental health. I look to make them feel comfortable and to get them laughing. I put a human touch to the creative. It’s my duty to put them over and inform people about them. I also talk about food and ask about their favorite restaurant/favorite dish at that restaurant. I mean… we all enjoy a great meal, right?!
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I’m kind of an open book but I guess I’d say… I’m a big General Hospital fan. I’ve been watching since high school. I grew up on soap operas but I really kept up with GH since I saw Billy Warlock on screen and recognized him from Baywatch, I think.
