Today we’d like to introduce you to Ang Richard.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
There’s been a lot packed in to just a few years. It was only four years ago that I graduated college and set out on my greatest adventure yet—navigating the world of work and pursing my entrepreneurial goals.
In those four years, I’ve had two different full-time jobs, completed one advanced degree, enrolled in another advanced degree, launched my LLC, pursued content creation, and moved to a new city. Now, I’m comfortably situated in Boston where I work in career services part time, pursue my Ph.D. full time, and work on growing my brand and business during the moments in between.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I shared this idea on LinkedIn recently, and I’ll share it here, too: “Do what you love, and you’ll never work a day in your life” is misleading. I used to subscribe to this idea, that if I loved what I did, it would never feel like work.
But now, as I’m actively progressing in my career and working all kinds of hours of the day, I can confidently say that I love what I do AND I’m putting in the work to make it happen.
There have been a handful of challenges along the way. To be honest, if there weren’t challenges, I’d probably be bored and would move on to the next thing. These challenges, however, have only strengthened my passion, diligence, and work ethic, instilling in me the reality that nothing runs off love or passion alone.
Everything I put into my career is an active choice, and those choices are made out of passion.
Some struggles I’ve faced include setting realistic expectations for my work, making money through a single member LLC, navigating tax and business documentation, and pitching myself to brands, organizations, and potential clients.
I’m reminded every day that two things can be true at once—you can do what you love, and you’ll need to work hard to keep doing what you love.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in supporting Generation Z as they navigate their careers while building a truly strong, collaborative intergenerational workplace. Whether I’m meeting with soon-to-be college graduates approaching the school-to-work transition, early career professionals looking for their next promotion, teams that need support navigating intergenerational dynamics, or something in between, I enjoy every moment of helping folks realize their full potential and how to navigate multigenerational workplace contexts.
I love sharing these ideas on LinkedIn, where I’m a Top Voice, and building a community of eager professionals. I’m proud to have my own business, Professionally Unprofessional, that promotes showing up as your confident, authentic self in the workplace and combats outdated norms around professionalism.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I believe that everything happens for a reason. That being said, I feel incredibly lucky to be in the position that I’m in to support talent communities across generations and to be entrusted to do so. I feel incredibly lucky that people enjoy my content, that they share it with others, and that I get to build a community around supporting early career talent in the world of work.
