We love contrarians. We love hearing unique view points and so one of our favorite things to ask folks is for them to tell us something they believe that most people in their industry disagree with. Check out some of those responses below.

Something I’ve witnessed in not only my industry, but business in general, is that it’s common for businesses to put down one another in order to make themselves the best. Putting down other businesses to get that one job with a client may work in the short term, but in the long term it may hinder growth. In fact, putting down other businesses in your field may even lead to a decline in profit. I’ve learned that collaborating with similar businesses has been one of the best things for me, as it has taught me new things in my field of work. I’ve also grown a list of photographers and videographers that can assist me with projects when I need help, and in turn these same people have given me referrals when they aren’t available for the job. Playing nice can get you far in your industry! Read more>>

You can have a successful career and an equally successful side hustle! I went to college and studied engineering and business, I graduated with my bachelor’s in engineering and my MBA. I’ve worked full time as an engineer for 11 years. I always cooked BBQ and quickly people knew where the spot was on the weekends, my house! I decided to start selling from home catering very small parties and even doing protein meal preps for bodybuilders and fitness gurus. After gaining a fairly decent following I launched my business – Prissy’s Barbecue as a passionate side hustle. We began as a mobile food trailer in January 2022. The business quickly grew, and our first restaurant opened March 2024, and yes I’m still employed full time! Read more>>

The standard for divorce attorneys is to charge billable hours in 6-minute increments, which creates an incentive for attorneys to fan the flames of conflict. It is wildly unpopular among attorneys to offer flat fee rates for divorce. My philosophy is that most divorces can come to an amicable resolution and can be resolved without a contested trial, which can cost as much as $100,000. In rare cases, trials are necessary, but in most cases, conflict can be deescalated to allow for a productive negotiation. Read more>>

The greatest challenge organizations face today is that less employees are willing to work—they want to work less, come into the office less, and be held less accountable for results. Plus, they are less committed to staying with an employer. In return, today’s worker wants more money, vacation, work-life balance, and promotions. In an age of an ever-escalating war for better employees, it has never been more important for a business to invest in developing leaders. Read more>>

The fitness industry often promotes an unrealistic, thin ideal of beauty and health. This creates significant hurdles for those who don’t fit this narrow mold, especially plus-sized individuals like myself. It’s disheartening to face doubts about my credibility as a Group Fitness Instructor/Personal Trainer, based solely on appearance. Read more>>

My “unpopular” industry opinion is two-fold, and it’s that business owners jump to delegating their social media and content marketing efforts too quickly to get it off of their plate as soon as possible; becoming part of the 60% average of business owners who report seeing little-to-no R.O.I. (return on investment) from their investment in a social media manager.; and that business owners without actual content creator aspirations don’t need to move online like content creators do… 👀 Read more>>

Most people in my industry strongly disagree with influencers giving any skin care advice. I have seen people damaging their skin almost beyond repair, or to repair the damage is very expensive, only because someone on social media said it works. It does not end there. There are all these sites selling chemical peels, who knows what is in them. One would think that everyone looking to get a deep chemical peel would choose to visit a licensed professional, for safety, Way too often that is not the case. Read more>>
