We love contrarians. We love hearing unique view points and so one of our favorite things to ask folks is for them to tell us something they believe that most people in their industry disagree with. Check out some of those responses below.

The natural vs. chemical debate is one that I find myself talking about with clients often. They come in, saying they ONLY want to use “Natural Skincare”, which is fine to have a preference; however, their preference is typically rooted in social media influence, fear mongering and simply not knowing. In the startup world, people often believe that if a company is big and has lots of users, they are successful. The problem with this thinking is that in “traditional” business, you build and scale when you have the revenue to support building and scaling. Somehow, especially in tech startups, we do this backwards. Consider companies like Uber and Lyft, who have never made a dime of profit and continue to operate only because they can continue to raise money. Read more>>

When I began photography, there was a lot of emphasis on getting everything done in the camera, to make all the decisions on the spot on how the final photo will appear. As I’ve developed in my photography journey, I’ve seen other photographers’ approaches to creating their final photo. I realized that it can be correct in the camera, and yet still incomplete. I strongly believe we have the power to change the landscape of the American Theatre. Who’s stories are being told, who is hired to tell those stories, and who is invited to view them. I am not the only one who holds this belief. I have faith that change is not only possible but inevitable. There are many folks who are uninterested and even resistant to change, but like any good revolution, resistance is futile. Read more>>

I think there is a misconception that Public Relations is going to spin something. I have always stuck with clients, and when I worked in-house for companies, who I felt that I could ethically represent without having to be a ‘spin doctor,’ In the middle of a conflict, or a crisis, or even day-to-day, I will stop and ask myself if I can still ethically represent this organization. Would 16 year old me be okay with the decisions I am making? It reinforces that the truth is always most important, even more now with so many things being published and not fact-checked. Being honest is always my priority in any interaction. Read more>>

Many Fitness Professionals would disagree, but I believe it’s rather easy to grow a legit organic following on social media. When people say it’s hard to gain followers or grow an online community due to the saturation of the market, it’s because they haven’t stepped outside their own box of ideas. Read more>>

I believe that most people in my industry disagree with the importance of quality of character representation over quantity. In the few years that I’ve been active in the princess party business, I have seen more and more companies pushing the amount of characters they offer but with relatively poor quality of standards. They are using low quality costumes or apparel, low quality wigs, and lower quality, inaccurate makeup and design that is incredibly mismatched from the original characters they are representing. I often find that prospective clients tend to believe that it’s possible to cut corners and have a successful social media marketing campaign by hiring a recent high school or college graduate that’s new to the industry. My close industry colleagues share similar experiences as well, which can be frustrating to sign on clients that have preconceived notions about what it is we actually do in our industry. Read more>>

I travel a ton for work. People in my industry, as photographers and clients, don’t seem to think that this is easy. I book shoots in my state but am willing to travel anywhere for hire. Potential clients based outside of Atlanta or Denver (I’m currently co-based) I feel don’t realize they can hire me just as easily as they hire someone local. My schedule is flexible and I love to make anything work. Travel inspires me. Read more>>
