Today we’d like to introduce you to Sonia Narvaez
Hi Sonia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
As a first-generation Latina raised in a rural environment, my early aspirations were firmly set on pursuing a medical career. Being the eldest sibling, I was instilled with a sense of responsibility to prioritize others’ needs above my own. The concept of entrepreneurship was unfamiliar to me at that time.
Upon entering college, I encountered challenges with the rigorous science curriculum required for medical studies, necessitating a shift in my academic focus. This led me to pursue Public Health, attracted by the prospect of making a broader impact through preventative measures rather than solely treating symptoms.
Initially, I was unaware of the diverse operational skills required in many of the positions I subsequently held. Despite working under competent supervisors and alongside dedicated colleagues, I consistently experienced a sense of unfulfillment in my roles. A recurring pattern of dissatisfaction emerged the reasons for which were not immediately apparent to me.
An opportunity to explore entrepreneurship presented itself, and through a process of experimentation and learning, I discovered my true calling: supporting businesses with their operational needs. This realization marked a significant turning point in my professional journey, aligning my skills and passions with a fulfilling career path.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
In recent years, particularly through the challenges presented by the pandemic, I’ve come to understand that traditional approaches to work and networking are evolving. The focus has shifted from mere productivity to fostering genuine connections and mutual support within the entrepreneurial community.
Networking has transformed from a purely transactional activity aimed at generating business opportunities into a more holistic practice. It now emphasizes building authentic relationships and providing support to fellow entrepreneurs as they navigate various challenges.
Moreover, I’ve realized that personal worth extends far beyond conventional metrics such as productivity, recognition, or financial success. True self-worth is an intrinsic quality that comes from within, independent of external validation or achievements.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
