Today we’d like to introduce you to Shane Hart.

Hi Shane, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?

I’ve worked in the natural products & wellness industry for over 30 years. As a boy, I suffered from chronic asthmatic bronchitis and severe allergic rhinitis, a debilitating condition my doctors considered incurable. An introduction to natural products and alternative health care in 1987 led to changes in my diet and lifestyle, I kicked my pharmaceutical regimen—and experienced a near complete recovery from my “cureless condition”. I’ve lived and studied throughout the U.S., Europe, and Asia, and managed some of the largest wellness brands in the natural products industry. I am originally from San Diego, but have called the Pacific Northwest my home for decades, I spend as much time as possible with my wife, daughter, and 2 sons. I’m a diehard nemophilist, and during my free time you’ll find me running trails, sitting in the sauna, reading sci-fi, or at the local Brazilian jiu-jitsu gym.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?

The biggest challenge for me has been finding people and organizations that are for-profit and also genuinely concerned with creating beneficial social impact. These days, many business claim to be socially responsible, but it is often “green washing”. I’ve worked with some organizations and colleagues that simply don’t “walk the talk” and that can be disheartening,

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Nukk Sauna?

Think about this, your home is double walled and insulated so it will hold temperature efficiently and handle all weather conditions. So why is it most sauna companies sell single walled uninsulated kits and barrels? It’s because they prioritize form over function, and are focused on the bottom line. At Nükk we believe that form follows function and in people over profit. What we build is driven by a love of quality craftmanship. We’re artisans, inspired by Finnish standards, working in a traditional way. This means no single walled uninsulated barrels or kits—ever.

Nükk is committed to helping folks be healthier and happier, however, we realize true happiness is a complicated equation. While it’s unlikely a sauna company is going to solve a mystery that has confounded philosophers since the beginning of time, we believe we’re on to something. According to the World Happiness Report, Finland is the happiest place on earth; and they have more saunas than any other country (one sauna for every two people)—correlation established.
