Today we’d like to introduce you to Ronnie Robson
Hi Ronnie , we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am a professional studio musician who has recorded with many great artists over the years. My instrument of choice has been the bass guitar but also known for drums and keys as well.
It all started when I was very young, perhaps six years old – taking piano lessons through the Royal Conservatory of Music in Dunsford, Ontario. Then around twelve years of age, I branched out into learning six string guitar, which brought me to the bass.
For the past thirty-eight years I have also been a mixing, mastering engineer – for music artists, and post audio for various film productions.
Music and film are my happy places,
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has been a smooth road since I was brought up to be a people person, with a good education in music, business, and developing strong communication skills.
I believe that communication is an important key with working with other people and business entities. This has sometimes been a struggle since in my business, I have found others to be often one-directional, being somewhat close-minded to other ideas, directions, or creativity in general. Opening their minds to various ideas sometimes has been a challenge, and positive directions have sometimes been a struggle.
Over the years I have learned to be cognizant that not all creative minds think alike, so my approach has always been with timing and patience. For the most part, things have gone very smooth.
As you know, we’re big fans of Amplitude Films and Music. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
At the moment I am involved in three music projects, recording original and cover tunes with some great musicians from around the globe – on their projects and my own.
I am also writing and recording original soundtrack, and in pre-production (film), for an upcoming on-line culinary series entitled “Sous Rock City”, which I will be the host. This will be a very cool show, not only some amazing recipes brought to the audience from my kitchen but also great guests (chefs and musicians), joining me around the greater Toronto area on some interesting culinary adventures.
In my house lies a great recording/film studio where musicians have been coming to record their music, and actors creating professional film/audio self-tape auditions and record voice-overs. I also work on (and specialize in), post-audio for film, television, radio and social media productions in my studio, which keeps me very busy. The studio space provides a very comfortable working environment for talent, and for myself – since the location provides opportunity for me to be creative and work anytime I feel – twenty four hours a day, seven days a week if I choose.
What were you like growing up?
I was a friendly kid, making friends very easy using humour.
In school, I was always a mid-grade student, and if I got an A or B on my report card my parents were thrilled. I was a high energy kid and very fortunate to grow up where I did. My parents owned a cottage resort in the Kawartha’s, on Sturgeon Lake. In the summer, I was always swimming, boating, doing chores, helping my mom in the kitchen, riding my bike, walking in the field and forest, building tree houses, talking to our guests, visiting my school friends on their farms, or catching fish, frogs and turtles. In the winter, it was skating on the lake, skiing, tobogganing or snowmobiling.
My interest was in music, my household was all about music. I would listen to my parents records, the radio, later my own records and playing piano or guitar.
I was very fortunate to have the upbringing my parents gave me.
