Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew McComb.
Hi Matthew, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started working in kitchens at 16, working my way up to becoming an executive chef. Over time, I wanted more control over my craft and career, so I transitioned into personal cheffing, creating high-end, customized dining experiences.
Along the way, I explored real estate, which gave me a strong foundation in business and entrepreneurship. I launched Chef Matt’s Culinary Creations LLC, a premium personal chef service, and have been expanding my offerings to include catering and exclusive dining experiences.
Now, I’m beginning to mentor other chefs who want to build sustainable, high-income businesses in the personal chef space. My focus is on delivering top-tier private dining while also helping other chefs navigate this path. It’s been a journey of constant evolution, but at the core, it’s always been about great food and meaningful experiences.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been an easy road. Getting kicked out of high school is what led me to the kitchen, and that’s where I found my direction. I learned fast, worked hard, and by 22, I had already become a chef.
But with that came its own challenges—dealing with confrontation, proving myself in a tough industry, and facing doubters who didn’t think I could make it. The kitchen can be brutal, and you have to be sharp, fast, and relentless. I had to earn respect the hard way, through skill and consistency.
Transitioning into personal cheffing came with its own set of struggles—figuring out the business side, finding the right clients, and making sure I wasn’t just a great chef, but also a great entrepreneur. Now, as I step into mentoring, I see the same struggles in other chefs, and I know how important it is to have guidance. It’s never been smooth, but that’s what makes it worth it.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
A few key resources have shaped my journey and continue to help me do my best, both in the kitchen and in life:
Old Cookbooks – I love diving into classic cookbooks. There’s something about the old-school techniques and recipes that keeps me inspired. They remind me that great cooking is about fundamentals and execution, not just trends.
Chef Radio Podcast – This podcast is a great resource for insights from top chefs and industry professionals. It keeps me connected to the broader culinary world and helps me refine both my craft and business approach.
The Academy of Culinary Arts – This is where I trained, and now I’m back as an adjunct instructor, teaching the next generation of chefs. Being in a learning environment pushes me to stay sharp, think critically about my methods, and give back to the industry that shaped me.
These resources keep me grounded, constantly learning, and evolving as both a chef and an entrepreneur.
