Today we’d like to introduce you to Liv Dellanno
Hi Liv, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
After graduating college in 2019, I moved to Chicago with my partner, having never been to Chicago before and with no job lined up. I was 22 and started working at a temp agency to try and figure out what I wanted to do as a career. Fast forward to 2020, in the middle of the pandemic. I was working from home as an office administrator for a prosthetic company when I befriended a musician in LA via TikTok. She needed help with her artist bio, and since I had a degree in English, I began helping her fine-tune her bio, write press releases, and find music outlets to feature her. After juggling 40 hours a week at my 9-5 and working with her on my off days, I realized how much I loved PR and set out to start my own company. I quit my job, began working with indie artists doing music PR, and eventually found my way into affiliate PR.
Since making the shift from music to affiliate PR, I’ve been able to grow Mystik PR from its humble beginnings of music blogs/magazines to getting clients’ features in outlets like Real Simple, Buzzfeed, Wirecutter, Oprah Daily, and Cosmopolitan, to name a few. I am so thankful to all the PR pros I’ve met during my entrepreneurial journey and the amazing founders I’ve been fortunate to work with.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As with most things, nothing worth having comes easy. One of the biggest challenges is the uncertainty of being an entrepreneur. While self-employment allows for much more freedom than a traditional 9-5, it comes at the price of stability, which, as you can imagine, is stressful. Trying to source clients after quitting my job was one of the biggest challenges, and there was a lot of rejection, but it’s all part of the process. If you’re in a similar spot of trying to get started, know that every “no” brings you closer to a “yes”!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Mystik PR ?
Mystik PR specializes in getting DTC brands up and running on affiliate networks, managing their affiliate programs, and securing press. Mystik is proud to be female-founded and queer-owned and currently represents female-founded brands in the fashion, pet, and beverage spaces.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I may be biased, but I think Chicago is the best city in the US. The culture, the food, and, most of all, the people make Chicago so amazing. I love how walkable and accessible everything is- there is something for everyone to do- no matter your budget.
There are so many things I love about Chicago, but I’d say my least favorite is deep-dish pizza. It may be a hot take, but NYC pizza is far superior.
