Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelsey Davis.
Hi Kelsey, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey into photography began in 2019 when I bought my first camera. Photography had always been a fascination of mine, and finally holding that camera felt like the start of something special. In college, I dabbled in modeling for a photographer, and while I enjoyed being in front of the lens, I couldn’t shake the curiosity of what it would be like on the other side of the camera.
For a while, life got busy with work, and my camera spent more time tucked away than in my hands. But every so often, I’d pick it up again, rediscovering the joy of capturing moments. Slowly, my love for it began to resurface. I started sharing what I’d learned with others who showed interest, and that’s when it clicked—photography wasn’t just a hobby for me; it was something more.
I realized that if this passion was meant for me, I owed it to myself to see where it could take me. So, I decided to go all in. I took a leap of faith, created my business, and for the first time, put both it and myself first. It’s been a journey of growth, creativity, and purpose ever since, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey in photography hasn’t been an easy one. Early on, I stepped into an opportunity thinking it would help my business grow and sharpen my skills as a photographer. Instead, it turned into one of the hardest seasons of my life. What I thought would build me up almost pushed me away from the craft altogether.
But even in the struggle, God had a plan. I met some incredible people who shared my passion for photography, and we bonded in a way that reminded me why I started in the first place. Those connections, and the love we all had for creating and capturing memories, became the light that kept me going when I felt like giving up.
Through that experience, I’ve come to believe that some things are meant to test you, maybe even break you, but what God ordains, no one can take away. Photography is more than just a business for me—it’s my calling. The road hasn’t been smooth, but every twist and turn has shaped me into the photographer I am today. This is only the beginning of my journey, but I see the vision of where I want to be and will be in the next year or so and it keeps me going!.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Kelsey Davis Photography is more than just a business—it’s a space where memories come to life and stories are preserved through the art of photography. I specialize in capturing authentic, heartfelt moments, whether it’s a maternity session that celebrates the beauty of new beginnings, a family shoot filled with love and laughter, or a portrait session that highlights individuality and strength.
What sets my business apart is the personal touch and genuine connection I bring to every shoot. I’m not just here to take photos; I’m here to create an experience that makes clients feel comfortable, valued, and celebrated. I pride myself on turning fleeting moments into lasting memories that my clients can treasure forever.
One of the things I’m most proud of is the way I’ve built this brand on generosity and community. I offer free photoshoots under certain conditions to help grow my business while also making professional photography accessible. For me, it’s about more than business—it’s about building relationships and giving back to those who support me.
At Kelsey Davis Photography, every client’s story is unique, and I strive to tell it beautifully through my lens. My hope is that readers see this as not just a service, but as an opportunity to connect, create, and cherish moments that matter most.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I love most about Baton Rouge is its vibrant sense of community and culture. From the rich history to the incredible food, festivals, and the unwavering support for local businesses, there’s a warmth here that feels like home. The city has a way of bringing people together, whether it’s cheering on the Tigers at an LSU game, enjoying the Mississippi River views, or exploring the arts and music scene. Baton Rouge is full of character, diversity, and opportunities to connect, which makes it such a special place to live and work.
Like many cities, Baton Rouge faces challenges, and one of the most noticeable is the traffic. It can be frustrating at times, especially during peak hours, and I think we can all agree there’s room for improvement in infrastructure. Another concern is ensuring all communities feel safe and supported, as there’s always more work to be done in building equity and fostering growth for everyone.
Even with its challenges, Baton Rouge is a city with so much potential, and I’m proud to be part of its journey forward.
