Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Browning.
Hi Heather, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born and raised in Sacramento, CA, but I’ve always dreamed of being a woman of the world and living a life that felt free and expansive. Yet, I found myself following the path that society laid out—one centered on college, career, and upward mobility. For 14 years, I worked in higher education, pursuing a career that looked great on paper but left me mentally, physically, and spiritually drained. Living a seemingly successful life, I realized I wasn’t finding joy, fueling my soul, nor tapping into my true purpose and potential. Following what I “should” do made me lose sight of my true desires, prompting me to stop playing by someone else’s rules.
Many can relate to this feeling of settling for a climb that doesn’t fulfill them. It was through this sense of unfulfillment that I began asking myself big questions: “What do I truly want from life? When did I last dream without limits? What was I really afraid of?” These questions made it clear that it was time to take the leap and “do it scared.” Taking that brave step meant reimagining my life without limitations to create one of abundance, fulfillment, and purpose—not just for myself but for others. After a year and a half, I launched Heather B. Coaching, becoming a women’s success and empowerment coach dedicated to helping women cultivate values-driven transformation to redefine success and fulfillment.
Now, I’m a woman of the world, living the global life I always dreamed of and supporting others in their journeys along the way.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Being in the coaching industry, I often hear the advice to “Choose yourself and follow your dreams.” While it sounds empowering, it often overlooks real-life circumstances and personal struggles. My journey was no exception and far from smooth.
Entrepreneurship required me to take significant risks without the safety nets others might have when building a business. Managing the financial, emotional, and mental ups and downs was a constant struggle. However, the biggest obstacle was internal: confronting my self-limiting beliefs. I doubted my capability and felt undeserving of creating a life different from what I was familiar with. These limiting beliefs were intertwined with a deeply rooted scarcity mindset—the belief that I had to hold onto what I had, even when it wasn’t serving me. Realizing that my new vision required a fundamental change, I knew I needed to shift to an abundance mindset.
Growing up with limited means taught me resilience and how to make the best of what I had, for which I am grateful. But embracing an abundance mindset meant no longer settling for “this is good enough” or “this will do.” I learned to be grateful for what I had while accepting that wanting more was okay and not selfish. Embracing this mindset was uncomfortable but essential for building the life I truly wanted. It was about being excited by possibility and recognizing that I deserved more without feeling guilty.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
As a Women’s Success and Empowerment Coach, I’m living proof of what’s possible when you choose yourself and let go of the “shoulds” that keep you playing small. It took courage to step into my current life, and that’s exactly what I help other women do: break free from what holds them back and create lives that embody their best selves. I work with women who feel drained, stuck, or unfulfilled, helping them redefine success based on their values and what truly matters to them, rather than societal expectations or external validation.
One of my proudest achievements is being an international community builder. I believe in the power of women coming together to share experiences and learn from one another. That’s why I created Women’s Community Circles—both virtual and in-person spaces where women can connect, feel seen and heard, gain new perspectives, and support each other. Hosting these circles domestically and internationally adds a unique global perspective, making community support a cornerstone of transformation.
I’m also proud of creating a lifestyle that seamlessly integrates work, travel, and freedom, allowing me to live and work authentically. This integration is a vital part of my journey and a testament to living a life aligned with my values.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Pivoting does not mean failure! It’s actually a skill to identify what’s no longer working and take brave steps toward change. Life doesn’t always unfold as expected, and opportunities may come in different packages—as long as it’s still moving you forward.
One of my pivot moments in this journey was working as a personal shopper for Instacart after taking the leap from higher education to keep my bills paid while building my business. I actually loved the flexibility it offered, gained valuable insights into creating my own schedule, and it gave me some time to think, which was important towards figuring out my next steps.
I’ve had to pivot so many times throughout this journey, and it hasn’t stopped. Learning to separate pivoting from failure made it easier, giving me agency in my change. My path as a coach has evolved in unexpected ways, including taking an unexpected opportunity in full-time employment that contributed towards advancing the vision I have for my life. I’ve learned to let things come together through deliberate choices and by allowing space for opportunities to unfold naturally.
