Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Baggett
Hi Chris, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey in the fitness world started in high school when I was selected as a senior staff assistant—kind of like an intern gym coach—helping out in the weight room. Initially, my plan after high school was to join the military and pursue psychology, but life took a turn when we found out we were having a child. At 17, my high school sweetheart (now my wife) and I had our daughter, Kailea. To support my family, I went to work at my stepfather’s convenience store so my wife could go to college and get her education.
Those early years weren’t easy—working long hours and trying to figure out my own career while raising a family. Two years later, our son Christopher was born, and two years after that, my wife graduated and became a teacher. Then I met someone at a cookout who introduced me to personal training, something I didn’t even know was an option without a college degree. So I studied, and a year later, I got certified and started working at a local studio. I stayed there for 11 years, learning everything I could and growing.
Then I took on the challenge of opening my own business in January 2020. Just a few months later, the pandemic hit, and like many others, I had to pivot quickly. We shifted to virtual training, stayed connected with our clients, and found new ways to add value. It wasn’t easy, but we made it through, and now we’re continuing to grow and expand.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of the biggest struggles I faced was my own mindset, especially when I first started studying to become a personal trainer. When I received the study materials, I was expecting to learn about exercises and how to perform them, but what I found was more like a medical textbook. It was filled with anatomy, how the heart pumps blood through the body, and kinesiology—it was overwhelming. To be honest, I didn’t think I was smart enough to learn this material because I have a form of dyslexia. I’ve always struggled with sounding out words and pronunciation, so reading through the technical language felt like trying to decode a foreign language. That was a major hurdle for me.
On top of that, there were practical struggles. I had a family to support, and the fitness industry can be unpredictable. Unlike other careers, there’s no guarantee of steady income because you only make money when you’re training clients. It’s a constant hustle, and you don’t know how many clients you’ll have from month to month.
Balancing work and family was another challenge. Most clients want to train early in the morning or after work, which meant I had split shifts—up before dawn, a break during the day, and then back at it in the evening. This made it hard to align my schedule with my family’s. Often, when I was free, they were busy, and when they were home, I was at work. That was tough to navigate as a family man.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Fully Alive Personal Training, we believe that fitness is about so much more than just working out—it’s about helping people become the healthiest, happiest version of themselves. We specialize in personalized training that meets people where they are, whether they’re just starting their fitness journey or looking to take it to the next level. Our approach is unique because we focus on more than just physical fitness; we aim to help clients grow stronger mentally, spiritually, and socially through their fitness journey.
One of the things I’m most proud of is my incredible staff and how we’ve come together as a team. We’ve adapted and grown, especially during challenging times like the pandemic. We quickly shifted to virtual training, found ways to stay connected with our clients, and came out even stronger. Our brand is built on resilience, adaptability, and the belief that fitness should empower every aspect of your life.
What really sets us apart is how much we value the relationships we build with our clients. They’re not just clients—they become family. We’re genuinely invested in their progress, supporting them both in and outside of the studio. Whether it’s through customized personal training, small group training, or our add-on services—like nutrition coaching or Fascial Stretch Therapy and Massage Gun Therapy—we go beyond just fitness to help people feel fully alive in every part of their lives.
For us, it’s not just about the workouts. It’s about creating a community where people feel supported and empowered, physically, mentally, and emotionally. We’re constantly continuing our education and staying on top of the latest fitness trends to better serve our clients. Ultimately, we’re not just building better bodies; we’re helping people live fully alive.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I love most about our city is the growth we’re experiencing, especially in our area. It’s exciting to see new opportunities and developments that bring more people and energy to the community. I also love that we’re in a military town. I have so much respect for the men and women in the military and deeply appreciate the sacrifices they make to protect our freedom. Being in a city that honors and supports them is something I’m really proud of. And, of course, I can’t forget the beach! It’s one of my favorite parts of living here.
As for what I like least, honestly, the only thing I can say is that sometimes I wish we had a professional sports team. I think it would add a whole new level of excitement to the city. But overall, there’s so much to love about where we live.
