Today we’d like to introduce you to Chami Saks.
Hi Chami , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in an Orthodox Jewish community in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where, according to our customs, married women cover their hair, often by wearing wigs. When I got married, I started wearing a wig myself. However, I wasn’t thrilled with my first wig. I soon realized that the wigs available on the market weren’t ideal for me, either in quality or style.
On top of that, Pittsburgh lacked local services for wig styling, cutting, and repair. Women in my community often had to ship their wigs to New York to get them serviced. This sparked an idea: I wanted to create a local space where women could have their wigs styled, maintained, and repaired.
To turn this vision into reality, I earned my cosmetology license and opened a small studio in the basement of my first home. From those humble beginnings, I grew the business into the go-to spot in Pittsburgh for women in the Orthodox Jewish community to have their wigs serviced. Over time, my salon also became a trusted destination for women experiencing hair loss to find new wigs and regain confidence.
As the salon grew, I decided to launch my own wig line. I named it Lola after my grandmother, a Holocaust survivor, whose strength and resilience inspired me. My goal was to design high-end, luxury wigs that catered to all wig wearers, regardless of the amount of natural hair they had.
Today, I’m grateful to say that the business has flourished, becoming the premier destination in Pittsburgh for wigs. We’re blessed with an incredible clientele and a dedicated team that creates a warm and caring environment for everyone who walks through our doors.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced is maintaining consistency. Consistency is crucial when you’re trying to grow anything, whether it’s a business, a skill, or a dream. With kids and the demands of everyday life, it was often a struggle to stay consistent in my business. But over time, I’ve realized that it’s precisely this consistency that has been the key to my growth and success.
Another challenge I faced was becoming comfortable with failure. Like many people, I used to see failure as a definitive endpoint—a sign that I should give up. However, once I learned to reframe failure as a stepping stone toward my ultimate goal, everything changed. By embracing the discomfort and recognizing failure for what it truly is—an opportunity to learn and grow—I was able to use those experiences to push forward and achieve my goals.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I’ve always considered myself a risk-taker, and I believe that mindset has been instrumental in building the business I have today. One of the biggest risks I’ve taken was investing in the Lola wig line. Producing wigs is a costly endeavor, and there’s never a guarantee they’ll sell. But thankfully, they did—and because I took that leap of faith, I was able to create a wig line that both my clients and I truly love.
I firmly believe that taking risks is essential for growth. Without risk, growth becomes stagnant, and progress stalls. It’s the willingness to take chances that transforms a business into something extraordinary. While we’re a small business, it’s the risks we’ve taken that have fueled our growth, and it’s the continued willingness to take risks that keeps us moving upward.
