Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Tufte
Hi Ashley, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
We had an unintended beginning. We got our first Dobermann with no intentions of becoming breeders, we just wanted a little extra protection around our acreage. After having her for a while we fell in love with the breed! We never saw any around really and thought it would be fun to try having a couple of litters. We got a male, then another female and it all snowballed from there! We fell in love with the process of raising the puppies and seeing them to their new homes and the difference they make in people’s lives.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We have had many struggles since we started. We had to have the vet artificially inseminate our first female, and our first litter we had three puppies and two died. It was a rough start for our first litter! We have had many other struggles, from importing a male that was not good for breeding, to losing pups or litters. Breeding is not easy or for the faint of heart. There is a lot of blood, sweat and tears that go into caring for dogs and puppies 365 days a year!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We raise European Dobermanns! We are a small family-owned business and raise our puppies like they are part of our family! We offer lifetime support of our puppies! We do our best to produce healthy and happy puppies with excellent temperaments. We have two boys, ages 9 & 10, so temperament is very important to us. Our kids will name them and wrestle and play with them outside. We do health testing to ensure our breeding stock is healthy and have good genetics. We select and keep only the best dogs that will fit the bill for producing high quality puppies that will make exceptional dogs! We are very transparent with our customers letting them know of any issues that have or may arise with having and raising a Dobermann. They have a lot of energy and can be a lot as a puppy. Many people have not owned one before and need help with ear posting or training. We are proud of our dedication and commitment to providing excellent customer service and producing quality dogs. We have grown in a short period of time, much faster than we anticipated, but enjoy what we do and all the challenges and learning that comes our way! We are branching out into training of our dogs and puppies and offering some that have been trained by our trainer Charged Up K9. or giving the option for them to be put in training with one of our many training programs.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I had never owned or even seen a Dobermann in person until 2014, a couple of months before we got our first one! I always admired their sleek, regal appearance but we do not have many of them in the area. That was also part of what inspired me to start breeding since they are few and far between around here. Even in bigger areas I have a lot of people tell me they are hard to find there as well!
