Today we’d like to introduce you to Zelenka Boyd
Hi Zelenka, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Our story started December 3rd 2014…the day my oldest, Marley, was born. It may sound cliche’ but it is 100% true that when I first saw her I knew I wanted to be better for US; and better meaning to challenge myself in every aspect of my life. I was about 5 years into my career as a 911 dispatcher, but I wanted to make an impact outside of work. I pondered on it for a while but I still didn’t quite know in what capacity I wanted to make a difference.
Fast forward to September 3rd 2015…the day I gave birth to my twins, Ayden and Ireland. They came a little early, at 33 weeks and they had to stay in the NICU for about 5 weeks. So there I was with a 9 month old, and newborn twins and I was preparing to be a single Mom as my marriage to the kids Dad came to an end. Thankfully we have super supportive family and I haven’t had to do things completely alone. The twins came home from the NICU and we got into a routine and started trying to adjust.
I prayed for God to place on my heart, what his intentions were for me for this new chapter, and a few weeks later my love for writing was placed back on my heart. I started an online “Mommy blog” as a way of being a vessel for God so that other Moms, whether single or not, knew they weren’t alone. I chronicled pieces of my journey as a Mom of 3 under the age of 1 and my up and down journey of learning to love this new version of me. I started doing freelance writing for a local magazine, and all the while I was enjoying styling my babies and taking their pictures in cute little outfits.
As they got older, they became naturals with their poses, knowing their angles and taking direction very well. And as they got better in front of the camera, I got better behind the camera. These skills brought the idea of starting their platform, just for them on social media and the end result and feedback was amazing.
The kids started doing brand rep work, being featured by major brands online and booking collaborations and I love the fact that they enjoy what they do. And now currently, as of about 2 years ago, we have been doing skits and we realized that we found another skill that the kids like and enjoy and they ask me when are we doing skits. And as of now we have over 30,000 followers on TikTok! God is amazing!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. I struggled with postpartum depression, a medical setback after having my oldest (thank God for healing!). I struggled with learning to love me again after leaving an abusive marriage. So the road hasn’t been easy, and it still isn’t but I’ve learned so much about myself and it has built every bit of confidence that I have in me today.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a 911 dispatcher; I have been for 14 years now. And I love what I do because I love helping people. I’m proud of myself for being awesome at a job that is rewarding and fulfilling.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Be consistent! That’s the only way you will see change.
