Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Stevens
Hi Victoria, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started my career as a stage actress when I was 10 years old. I performed in church performances and community theatre mostly. Then when I graduated high school and started attending college, I found that my true love was film/tv acting. I changed majors from social worker to R/T/F communications and minored in journalism. I would on occasion pick up theatre opportunities here and there. However, my love for the camera led me to pursue a career in film/tv. I started to improve my craft and landed an agent and a manger. Which then led to being booked on amazing projects from 21 bridges to a new feature called Relay that is coming out next year. It has been quite a journey so far.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My journey has not been a smooth ride, but the struggles I have had led me to where I am today. A few challenges I’ve had to face were lack of jobs while pursuing my career, an eating disorder that took me out of the game while I was seeking help, an unplanned blessing who I named Benjamin, and the endless auditions that led nowhere. The one thing about this career is that you are always being placed on job interviews to see if you’re a good fit for projects, and if you’re not then you are back on the scout for that next interview. I am not where I want to be, but I am where I am supposed to be.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Well, one thing I have learned from my journey is its very unpredictable. I have a journalism degree and I never thought I would be able to use it until a few years ago I decided to create some press articles for my career, and I reached out to a couple of publications. When Hollywood Times reached back, they loved my article and asked if I could be one of their writers. I gladly took the opportunity to grow my career and now I am writing for them and doing red carpet interviews at Tribeca and Sundance Film Festivals.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I think the best characteristic I have is I am a survivor and God has made me very determined in whatever I set my mind on. I am always willing to grow and pursue what I love. If I don’t have a certain skillset for a part, then I will go and learn that skill. I am always willing to ask for help and be a helping hand on productions as well.
