Today we’d like to introduce you to Trystin Otero-Watson.
Hi Trystin, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
A few years ago my dad got his hands on a camera for free, but he already had one, so he let me have it I’d gone around mostly taking landscape photos when a friend of mine asked me to take some wedding anniversary photos for them. I had so much fun during that session that I wanted to try doing more. I had some amazing friends and family volunteer, and was able to practice a lot.
While I’m working full-time, I spend my evenings and weekends working on my photography. I come home from work to edit, and on the weekends I try to do as many photoshoots as I can.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been the smoothest, but also not that bad. The hardest part has been balancing my day job, my personal life, and photography.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My main work is portrait photography. I love capturing families and couples, and my surprise favorite has been maternity!
I’m proud of how much I’ve been able to learn on my own. I’ve put in a lot of my spare time practicing, learning my gear, and learning how to edit, and I feel like I’ve come a long way.
I think what sets me apart from others is I have experience and interests in a lot of different areas, not just photography. My educational background is in chemistry and forensics, I’ve also played quite a few sports, played a few instruments, and have several other interests. I think this makes it easy for me to connect and find things in common with my clients.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
I wasn’t really doing business during Covid. However, one thing I learned on a personal level is how fragile life can be, and how important it is to spend time with our loved ones, and capture those moments together!
