Today we’d like to introduce you to Trillizos Torres Pacheco
Hi Trillizos, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
We Leonel, Lorenzo, and Luis are triplet brothers and we are a collective of artists who have become known in the world of art as Trillizos Torres Pacheco.
Ever since our childhood, we all knew that our place in the future would be within the world of creation. The only thing we always wanted to do as kids was to grab a piece of paper, some pencils and draw our favorite characters from videogames, anime, and cartoons (so convenient for our mother so that we would not make a mess on the walls of the house) doing our best to create the most accurate copy of them.
We all three always shared the same sketchbooks, colored pencils, and even the work table. While drawing, if one of us ‘discovered’ how to replicate such color or texture, he would share this learning with the other two right away. So, teamwork was constantly there. Such thinking was developing and gaining strength as we grew and progressed in our artistic path.
Our formal approach to painting initiated when Luis got accepted first into a scholarhip program called ¨Artistic Talents¨ offered by ICBC (Culture Institute of Baja California) that our beloved mother with a lot of effort found. We had the wonderful and irreplaceable opportunity to learn a lot from excellent artists as Jesús Antonio Quintero (Mexican, rip), Luis Garzón Masabó, and Jhosell Rosell Castro (both Cubans), expanding our knowledge in this field. All thanks to the founder and coordinator of this program the Russian PhD Zarema Tchibirova (rip).
Zarema became a very important and influential person in our personal and professional lives that we considered her as our godmother. She had a special talent for detecting people with a promising future, when she saw the three of us together for the first time she believed in us and in our talent, allowing us have our very first art exhibition which encouraged us to keep going in this difficult but marvelous world of art.
She made us realize that the paintings we created together had a much stronger impact and energy than those that were painted separately. This whole experience defined our current way of working as artists.
A fun fact is that Zarema found out from our mother that Luis was a triplet and the other two brothers had the same interest in painting so she immediately told our mother to bring the other two to the next class.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has never been smooth. Starting with our family. We were born in Tepic, Nayarit in 1996, we lived three years in Acaponeta and then we moved to Tijuana in 1999, and since then we have been living in this prosperous border city.
Our arrival to Tijuana was not easy, our parents had a bunch of issues and struggles to deal with. They barely had economic resources to cover the tuition fees for school for the three of us and not to mention the art material. All expenses were always multiplied by three, our parents did not have it easy but many fantastic people, some of them members of foundations and institutions, appeared in our lives like a miracle.
On the academic side, the Community Center of ¨El Florido¨ and Build A Miracle Foundation helped us way too much with our high school, and University expenses.
And on the artistic side, Zarema was the key for our development as artists. She noticed on our living condition because of our mother, and thanks to her we now have our own house and a studio where we can paint at ease.
The struggles we are facing nowadays as independent professional artists have to do with finding the right collectors niche who really appreciates and has the desire to acquire our creations. The life of an artist is like a roller coaster, because there are seasons where the sales are frequent and high but sometimes the complete opposite happens. They are situations we are getting used to.
We are pretty sure there will be many more obstacles along the way but fortunately we have each other´ and our family´s support and love to keep moving forward.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As artists focused on painting, we always work together in every single project we come up with, from sketching, devising the composition for each canvas to the final stage (which is varnish application). The hands of the three of us are always participating in everything. We are so used to this way of working that it really does not bother us at all. People have even dared to say that only one of us is the painter and the other two are not, that is because we all three have developed our technique to such a level that you would hardly tell the differences among our brushstrokes. But we like the idea that our artworks are made by one person because we do feel like we are the same person!
And it is not like in every block you will find triplet artists and much less that they work on the same piece. We think we are the first case in the whole art history and if one of the readers know about other case similar or identical as ours, please let us know because we would definitely love to learn about their story too.
About sources of inspiration for our work naturally come from everyday life, everyday experiences and everything that surrounds us, even from our condition of life as triplets. We define our art as a synergy of three movements we love: surrealism, hyperrealism, and photorealism. Which we could call it as “tripletism”.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Future is unpredictable so as long as we have each other’s support and love we will keep creating together till our time in Earth ends.
Of course, we got some clear goals we would like to achieve in the near future, one of them is keeping on carrying out artistic residencies in as many institutions, museums, and galleries around the world as possible.
And others in the long term such as having our paintings be part of auction houses such as Sotheby’s and Christie’s, and re-opening our own gallery.
