Today we’d like to introduce you to Theresa Marsala
Hi Theresa, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve had a love affair with paper and arts since I was a child. My favorite places to visit were the library, the art store & the comic book shop. I have also been collecting books & magazines since my teen years. During the Covid lockdown in 2020 I made friends with a few artists on Instagram who were desperate for collage materials since all their local shops were closed and online resale sites like Ebay/Etsy were price gauging. I offered to sell ephemera from my collection to help them out and that’s how @VinTreVintage was born. Since then I’ve curated many vintage/modern material orders specifically personalized for individual collage artists around the world, as well as help supply other small businesses/shops with ephemera.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Since my only form of communication & selling is on Instagram it has been a challenging journey, especially after my original account @tre_tre was hacked and I had to start over with my now current account @Vintrevintage. I don’t have an EBay or Etsy shop and don’t have a website. This is my side hustle and I do out of my love for preserving the past, helping artists get the materials they need to create their visions and keeping prices affordable.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
When I’m not sourcing or personal shopping as an ephemera concierge for many artists & collectors around the world, I’m creating my own vintage modern mixed media collage artworks highlighting primarily feminine focal points. All of my works are one of a kind and are small scale collages that I make specifically to include in each order I curate. I also make & donate mini original collages to Free Little Art Galleries across North America. I believe by giving these materials the care and attention it deserves I’m helping spread ephemera appreciation to the collage communities and beyond.
What’s next?
Right now my collage fodder finding & ephemera art creating is a part time side hustle. I would love nothing more than to be able to make a reliable income doing this full time, but sadly that interferes with my goal of keeping prices down to help stay within my buyers budgets. So my current goal is to spread the word of what I do by creating collages with the materials I source and getting published in books/magazines and featured in online articles and social media posts.
