Today we’d like to introduce you to The ART MuZeum.
The ART MuZeum, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I first fell in love with Hip Hop at an early age. There was a lot of influences. From radio and music videos to movies such as “House Party”. I always loved Hip Hop and its form of expression and representation of culture. The culture of where I’m from and what I would see on a daily basis. I knew then, that I wanted to be a part. I would listen to what my older cousins and friends would put me on to. That heavily influenced the type of music I would like because I looked up to them so much. Eventually I began writing raps. I didn’t know about structure or any of that type stuff. I just wanted to make songs. I’d rap with friends and my cousins. We’d record songs on karaoke machines or whatever we could find. It was fun but it was also pure. That wide eyed newness of expression in a fun way. Over time I found that writing music was sort of an escape. I learned to write down my thoughts and feelings and it became cathartic in a way. Years later, I realized something that I wished I’d learned much sooner. I realized that I could actually take making music to the next level. I could actually make a life of it and have it be much more than just rapping on the phone to my friends. It was from then that A..R.T. was officially born. Which would grow to be me as I am today, The ART MuZeum.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I can honestly say that time has been one of the biggest struggles. I’ll explain. I pursued a “normal” life early on. Denying what my true passion is. Out there in the work force, it’s draining. Especially when you know in your heart what your true calling is. And I lived that life mostly because it was all I thought was possible. The whole time, still engaging in music to the limited extent that I saw possible or even available at the time. And that is one of my biggest regrets in life. Had I known then what I know now, I would’ve followed my heart much sooner. Therefore I’ve always felt like I am making up for lost time.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Hip Hop Artist from Hartford Connecticut. My name is The ART MuZeum. Formerly, A.R.T. which stands for Against Realty’s Terms. I’ve released a number of singles, albums and bodies of work since I began my musical journey. I am a Hip Hop artist but not limited to Hip Hop. I’m a fan of good music. Hip Hop is my primary language but I love all genres of music. From the music I’ve released, it’s hard to say which I’m most proud of. Each release is sort of a time stamp of how I felt creatively at the time. It’s like choosing your favorite child. For instance, I love my first album “I Hate Rappers” partially because it was my first but also because it was a true embodiment of raw Hip Hop. Another example is my recent album “Slice Of Life”. I love it because it’s probably the most creative and experimental full body of work. I love it. But there’s also the music I’ve released recently under the “Nobody’s Listening Anyway…” mantra. It’s a raw, no questions asked, expression of my view of the world. The thing I feel that sets me apart from others is, I create from a human level. My goal is to connect. The biggest compliment I’ve received from my time doing music is when people tell me my music touched them or helped them through a hard time. That is the ultimate reward any artist can receive. Because people may forget what you said but they’ll never forget how you made them feel. And being able to evoke emotion, through music and other artistic mediums, is what I feel my true purpose is in life.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I’ll be honest. Apps and social media are a necessary evil and tool in being an entrepreneur. I’m such a private person that, that piece has been a struggle. But with that being said I do curate and manage both Merchandise and Clothing sites which are all an extension of my art. I also graphic design and as of late have been editing my own music videos. So Photoshop and Premier Pro have been my go-to for creating in those mediums. Musicians are very selective in their DAW choices. I use Studio One to record myself. That has been a fulfilling journey in learning all the intricate details in how to maneuver through the program. My friend The Prestigious One will mix and master the music to get it right. He’s had his hands in everything you’ve heard from me and he’s someone I trust and have trusted for years.
