Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Perkins
Hi Taylor, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I like to think my journey in fashion blogging began as early as 2010. Back then, I was running a YouTube channel and a Blogger page, both dedicated to exploring style and trends. More recently, I’ve moved to Substack, where I continue to share my passion for fashion. Even as a kid, I would always dress up and try to make myself look as chic as possible. It’s something that’s always been part of me. Career-wise, I’m currently in a data analytics and corporate support role within the customer service sector, which I do enjoy. But if I’m being honest, I find myself even more drawn to my fashion hobby. It’s just something I can’t get enough of. These days, I’ve managed to combine my love for data and finance with my passion for fashion, posting about upcoming trends and great deals on platforms like TheRealReal and Grailed. It’s a perfect balance of my two worlds and keeps my eye on the future prize to make fashion a full-time career.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but I believe we all earn our tiger stripes in life one way or another. Growing up, everyone has a vision of how their life is going to turn out, and for some people, it works out exactly as planned. For me, though, it was a different story. My plans crashed and burned, tumbled down a hill, and came to a screeching halt when they hit a stop sign. I originally started college as a kinesiology major, but by my third year right in the middle of the pandemic I decided to drop out due to being burnt out. I was working full-time, going to drill once a month, and taking well over 5 classes a term. After that, I switched to nursing, a field I quickly realized wasn’t for me, and found myself feeling more lost than ever. I ended up taking a year off to figure things out, all while wrapping up my final year in the Army.
That year was chaotic, stressful, and full of discouraging moments. It was one of those times where it felt like nothing was going according to plan, and I couldn’t see the path forward. But after that year of pulling myself back together, doing some much-needed traveling, and reflecting on what I truly wanted, I found a new direction. I thought to myself what better way to enter the fashion world than by focusing on what fuels it, finance! And that’s how I ended up here, taking it day by day, working toward my degree, and slowly carving out my place in an industry and writing about it also. It hasn’t been easy, but I’m proud of how far I’ve come. The journey’s not over, but I’m excited for what’s next.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My fashion blog, ThatsTotallyFashion on Substack, is where I blend my passion for style with my background in data analytics and finance. What I do is more than just talk about clothes; I dive deep into fashion trends, breaking down why certain styles are rising in popularity and where to find the best deals on high-end pieces from sites like TheRealReal and Grailed. I specialize in discovering and sharing hidden gems, whether it’s an emerging trend or a luxury piece that’s underpriced and ready to be snapped up. I actually just purchased a Dries Van Noten jacket for way under market value and I wear it literally once a week. It’s all about cost per wear out here girl math is the only way haha.
I’m most proud of how I’ve built a community of fashion enthusiasts who share my love for both style and smart shopping. I strive to bring a fresh perspective by not only focusing on aesthetics but also on the business side of fashion, helping readers understand the value behind the pieces they love. What sets ThatsTotallyFashion apart is this unique intersection of finance and fashion. I’m able to help my readers make informed decisions about their purchases by considering the long-term value of their investments. My blog is a space where passion meets practicality, and that’s something I’m really proud of and i’m so thankful for having that outlet.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I love most about the city is the vibrant energy that surrounds everything here, especially when it comes to fashion. There’s always something going on whether it’s fashion shows, pop-up shops, or just people walking the streets with an incredible sense of style. It’s inspiring to be in a place where creativity thrives and where you can see the latest trends come to life right before your eyes. Plus, there’s an endless supply of boutiques, thrift shops, and luxury stores to explore, which is a dream for anyone passionate about fashion. I could spend HOURS in thrift stores.
What I like least about the city is probably how overwhelming it can be at times. While the fast pace is exciting, it can also be exhausting. The crowds, the constant noise, and the hustle can make it hard to slow down and take a breath and just be in the moment. But despite its challenges, the city’s charm and opportunities far outweigh the downsides for me.
