Today we’d like to introduce you to Tatiana Grant, Lpc, Ncc
Hi Tatiana, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I got started in the mental health field by accident, I originally wanted to be a pediatrician. I began my undergrad career as a Pre-Med Biology student. I’ve always struggled in Math and that was my Achilles Heel as a Pre-Med student. I then switched my major to Nursing, however I still was unfulfilled but knew I wanted to help others. While a Nursing student, I had to take a Psychology class. I instantly fell in love! I was able to fulfill my passion for helping others and I wasn’t continuously struggling within my Math classes!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Of course my life has not been a smooth road! While there have been some struggles, there also have been some beautiful triumphs as well. I’ve dealt with supervisors and companies who prioritized productivity over client care. This created uncomfortable work environments as I am a client centered clinician. I have also had personal health struggles that I always tried to maintain a sense of normalcy while helping others. Despite what challenges I was facing, I never allowed those bumps in the road to deter me from my passion of helping others and providing the best quality care.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a licensed professional counselor in New Jersey and a nationally board certified multiculturally competent therapist. I received my Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling with a specialization in children and adolescents from Monmouth University in 2015. I have experience working with children, adolescents, families and the military community. While children and adolescents are my passion, I also have experience working with adults. I have experience in providing in-home services, community supports, outpatient, school based services and intensive outpatient services. I also have experience presenting mental health materials to the community. I am proficient in Spanish. I enjoy working with diverse populations, I am most passionate and proud about serving the African American and Hispanic/Latino communities who often under utilize mental health services due to stigma. My goal is to serve all, help all. As of 2022, I am also providing non-medical counseling services to military children and families. As an Army Brat I am extremely proud to be able to give back to the military community!
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
The characteristic I feel that is most important to my my success in the counseling field is my passion for not only mental health but for helping others. I am extremely proud to be able to make my community a better and healthier place. I also have the ability to put my clients at ease. Oftentimes, when clients begin to see me they’re in crisis mode and extremely stressed out. My empathetic manner and compassion usually puts client’s at ease by the end of their first session with me.
