Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamika Hill
Hi Tamika, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey to becoming Coach T has been a path full of ups and downs. It began with my work in corporate and the medical industry, followed by opening my own private mental health practice. Eventually, I left my job to focus on my practice full-time, which has now grown into a group practice with two locations called Step by Step – The Spa for Your Mind P.C.
However, I noticed that many clients in education, law enforcement, healthcare, and corporate sectors were struggling without finding resolution. In 2020, this realization prompted me to start Thill Consultant LLC, where Coach T was born and mental wellness became a lifestyle.
At Thill Consultant LLC, we provide professional development with a focus on mental wellness for corporations, schools, and executives. Our training programs, covering topics from strategic communication and skill-building to leadership and DEIB, are all infused with a focus on mental wellness in the workplace.
Coach T’s model is that mental wellness is a lifestyle, not just a reaction to crises. Our goal is to create workplaces that are mentally and emotionally safe, fostering psychological safety for all.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey to establishing Thill Consultant LLC has been a rollercoaster filled with twists, turns, and countless learning curves. Launching a new business during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic was particularly challenging. I had to adapt to connecting with individuals who had transitioned from physical office spaces to working from home, which was a significant hurdle in itself.
Businesses were unprepared for the pandemic, making it incredibly difficult to reach HR or education department representatives. It often took months to make contact, only to be told that there was no way to provide training for the staff or that it wasn’t within the budget. At that time, mental health was not a priority for many companies, so there was little support for integrating it into the workplace.
Although the work environment has evolved somewhat to support the mental well-being of employees, there is still a long way to go. Unfortunately, we remain in a reactive rather than proactive mindset. My goal is to make mental wellness a lifestyle, allowing us to enjoy life fully, both at home and at work.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a mental health therapist, licensed as a clinical social worker in Illinois, Texas, and Indiana. I specialize in providing mental wellness strategies and coping skills for dealing with trauma, depression, stress, anxiety, and financial triggers, particularly in the workplace. Alongside individual therapy, I offer executive coaching to leadership in the corporate sector.
What sets me apart is my unique approach that combines relatability, logic, strategy, and effectiveness. All of my professional development sessions and workshops, regardless of the topic, incorporate the TLC approach—addressing Triggers, enhancing Leadership skills, and creating Strategic communication flow in the workplace.
I am most proud of my two signature workshops. The first, “Financial Triggers,” teaches financial mental wellness literacy to help individuals transform their relationship with money and credit into a healthier one. The second, “Beautifully Broken and Mending Well Experience,” brings together women from all walks of life, creating an emotionally safe space to discuss deep scars and how to mend from them. This workshop promotes living a lifestyle free from past brokenness, fostering overall mental wellness.
Ultimately, my mission is to teach everyone that mental wellness is a lifestyle, not just a reaction to crises.
