Today we’d like to introduce you to Sierra Rose Stone
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My life started with my father & mother being married in Pennsylvania in a small town called New Castle. I was very close with my family & on my father’s side, we had property & did a lot of hunting, fishing, and building outside. We always went to a local Pentecostal christian church every Sunday. On my mothers side, family was also very important & my grandmother was a foster care parent with many adopted children. I grew up very community based & loving nature, & enjoying extended family farms. Because of the way I grew up & my parents later divorce I grew up with the love of the hustle of the city & the love of the country farm land.
My grandmother Bertha on my fathers side of the family was a prominent figure in my life & she grew up in Long Island, NY & I still have extended family from that area. Sometimes, I am even told I have an accent & I believe that is from my grandmothers thick New York accent. I have an older sister who is eight years older than me & my only sibling & I became an aunt at an early age to one niece and two nephews.
I grew up in a very musical family on both sides. Now, it has become a tradition in my family to gift the youngest with guitars around the ages of 12 at our family gatherings. My father played guitar & his name is James & I started playing music at a young age & really took to playing other instruments in the middle school & highschool bands. My mother Shelby played piano & loved to sing & play music. I grew up with music always being a staple in my household. Usually it was rock like Prince, The Doors, or my moms favorite which is still Hinder. I always loved to write, make art, read, and play music & I was always supported in those areas by my family which I am truly grateful for to this day.
Music to me brings people together, and art gets a conversation started. I still value family, community, art, food, and good music to bring people together.
I always knew I would do something with writing, art, and music. That leads me today to doing whatever I can to be apart of community & share the love of music. It is important to me to keep in mind where I come from & honor my roots. I love to give back & advocate for my communities & hardships. The love of music, art, and community keeps growing for me. I now am a graphic design & tech entrepreneur, musician, entertainer, and artist completely self employed.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road. I was faced with many challenges & struggles along the way. As a child, there is a lot out of your control. My parents got divorced when I was three years old, and my sister was about eleven. My grandparents sold their property & homestead they built due to being sick. My grandfather had a stroke & couldn’t finish the property build. I remember crawling up a ladder with my grandmother to reach the second floor of the house they were building. They moved into another home & my grandmother on my fathers side ended up getting sick with dementia. This left my mom, sister, and I with very low income & we ended up living in section 8 housing. At one point I lived in foster care without any of my family. Whenever I returned, I got a job very young as a busser at an Italian restaurant, and I worked all of my teen years on the weekend to save up money to support myself & my family at times. These hardships I am thankful for because it built resilience for me to have a strong back bone for hard situations.
I later on moved to Pittsburgh by myself at the age of 18, and attended BC3 which is a local community college. I went for all things tech, business & design. I started professionally recording at ID labs at the age of 18. I also had a vocal coach & community of videographers, audio engineers, and creative guides. I was blossoming in my community & was able to approach my music career with open ears & arms. The music community in Pittsburgh I owe my all to because without them I would never realize how much I love what I do.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an artist & creative person & I specialize in creating music, making graphic designs, making art, performing my music, and helping others build their brands & find their identity in business. I believe I am known for performing my music and making graphic art. I am most proud of never giving up on my music career even when I had one other person listening to my music. I made some terrible music in the beginning of my career in my opinion. I didn’t let it stop me. I took criticism, but I didn’t let it break me.
I think that my integrity can set me apart from others. The life I was given was not always easy & my independence sets me apart from others. I never want to believe I am more special than anyone because I truly believe we all matter. I believe our gifts, differences, and hardships set us apart but also bring us together. We all need the same things to survive as a human species & I am happy I found my passions early on in life. I know my place in this world. I believe in one love.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I believe having integrity of doing what I say I will do is most important to my success. Of course, sometimes circumstances are out of my control, but I also believe transparency and honesty to my supporters is the most important aspects of my growing success. What I do or don’t do will sink my ship or keep it afloat. I realize as I grow more mature in life and in business the aspect of trust is so important. I never want to lose the trust of my true supporters. I know my actions or lack thereof will always affect another. Therefore, I try my best to be calculated but never lose my free spirit or try too hard to please those who do not understand my walk in life. I continue my journey by remembering to trust, respect, and care for others while never betraying my own self and my morality.
