Today we’d like to introduce you to Shari Biery
Shari, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey began in a small town in Northwest Ohio, where I met my husband, John, while working together in high school at McDonald’s. We both grew up in a community where serving and helping others was a way of life, a value that has deeply influenced our paths. After high school, I pursued a career as a respiratory therapist while John finished pharmacy school. We got married and, seeking ways to fund his medical education, John joined the Navy through the Health and Promotions Scholarship program. This decision marked the beginning of our adventurous life as a military family, moving to various locations around the world.
Over the years, we embraced the military lifestyle, making lifelong friends and experiencing diverse cultures. Each move presented unique challenges and opportunities for growth. I juggled various jobs, which helped me develop a wide range of skills and a deep understanding of different industries. This varied experience became invaluable when I transitioned to becoming a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC).
As a Purpose & Well-Being Coach, I now help midlife women rediscover themselves, prioritize their well-being, and thrive with purpose. My journey has been one of continuous learning, adaptation, and resilience, all of which have shaped me into the coach I am today.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It certainly hasn’t been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges was the frequent relocations due to John’s military career. Each move meant starting over in a new place, finding new employment, and building new support networks. There were times I felt defeated and undervalued, especially when struggling to find meaningful employment. Additionally, managing the household, supporting John’s career, and raising our two children, Kyle and Kaitlyn, while navigating the uncertainties of military life, was often overwhelming.
Another significant struggle was my health. After years of prioritizing everyone else’s needs, I found myself dealing with issues like night sweats, insomnia, weight gain, and fatigue. I vividly remember sitting in my car, crying after a doctor’s appointment, feeling dismissed and unheard. This moment was a turning point for me, highlighting the importance of self-care and self-advocacy.
These challenges taught me resilience and the importance of adaptability. They also inspired me to pursue health and wellness coaching, so I could help other women navigate similar struggles and find their path to well-being and purpose.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My advice for those just starting out is to embrace the journey, including the challenges and setbacks. Every experience, no matter how difficult, is an opportunity for growth and learning. Don’t be afraid to take risks and step out of your comfort zone; it’s often where the most significant growth happens.
It’s crucial to build a strong support network. Surround yourself with people who uplift and support you, both personally and professionally. These connections can provide invaluable guidance, encouragement, and opportunities.
Something I wish I knew when I was starting out is the importance of self-care. Prioritizing your well-being is not selfish; it’s essential. When you take care of yourself, you are better equipped to handle life’s challenges and be there for others.
Finally, stay true to who you are, your purpose and values. Let them guide your decisions and actions. Trust in yourself and your journey, and remember that it’s never too late to set new goals and dream new dreams.
