Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott Arbital
Hi Scott, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I began my journey at the age of 17, initially taking a graphic design class for an easy A, but quickly falling in love with the craft. After just one semester, I won an international competition to get my designs on skateboards for underprivileged kids and secured my first client, RSA Technology. This experience not only solidified my future in design but also sparked my entrepreneurial spirit.
Recognizing the need for guidance to achieve my ambitious goals, I sought out a mentor. In 2014-2015, I interned at Evil Genius, where I worked with high-profile clients such as Justin Timberlake, Chris Brown, Hana Nitsche, and The Hilfigers. My passion for design deepened, and I found a mentor in one of the partners, Daries Allani. With his extensive marketing background, he saw potential in me, and together we have continued to work on major accounts. Having a mentor to guide me was instrumental in shaping my early career.
Since then, I have worked with numerous companies and thousands of clients across various fields. Each experience has propelled me further up the ladder of success, teaching me invaluable lessons in leadership, goal setting, and creativity.
Currently, I am employed at FCBCURE (https://fcbcure.com), part of the IPG network, where I contribute to projects for Edwards Lifesciences, making a difference in Heart Valve Health with my creative skills. Additionally, I support small businesses with branding, design, and campaign services through my own company, M. Scott Media (https://www.mscottmedia.com).
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has never been smooth or easy. I’ve faced many obstacles, but these challenges have shaped me into the professional and person I am today.
One significant struggle was overcoming my own arrogance. Early success made me enter college with an inflated ego, believing I was better than my peers and even my teachers. I assumed earning my degree would be a breeze, but by sophomore year, I saw my classmates surpassing me because I wasn’t putting in the necessary effort. A pivotal moment came when a teacher pulled me aside and said, “Scott, you need to learn the rules before you break them. Right now, you’re falling behind.” From that point on, I dedicated myself to working harder than ever to excel in what I loved. I learned that early success and talent are not enough; hard work is essential.
Another challenge was realizing that chasing money alone doesn’t lead to fulfillment. Early in my career, I prioritized high-paying jobs, which led to some exciting experiences but also landed me in toxic work environments and projects that didn’t ignite my passion. It wasn’t until my recent position at FCBCURE that I rediscovered my love for my craft and reignited my passion.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At FCBCURE, I work as an Art Supervisor, overseeing projects that extend far beyond basic designs in the pharmaceutical and medical fields. While I handle tasks like emails, banners, postcards, and flyers, I also lead larger campaigns. For example, I helped lead a campaign to develop a mascot for a client and directed the use of it across print and digital media. I helped manage another campaign where we captured patient experiences to share with the world. Additionally, I enhance digital and print spaces with high-level aesthetics, making health-related content more engaging and visually appealing.
At my company, M. Scott Media, I specialize in building and enhancing a company’s overall footprint. As a Creative Partner, we collaborate with clients to develop, launch, and refine their brand messaging, ensuring a cohesive statement across all marketing materials. I am passionate about brand development because I see it as a living entity. A logo serves as the first impression or the face of a company. Stationery and introductory materials act as the initial handshake. A website offers the first in-depth encounter, allowing people to learn more. Campaigns and other marketing materials help maintain and nurture that relationship. Our flagship service, the “Brand Builder” package, equips any company for a successful launch and establishes a strong initial footprint. This comprehensive package includes a logo, stationery, print materials, digital content, social media strategy, demographic profiles, brand guidelines, slogan creation, and more!
What makes me most proud is seeing my work in the world. There’s no better feeling than driving past a billboard or watching a commercial and spotting my designs. It’s incredibly rewarding to leave a daily mark on the world, help companies grow, and influence people’s moods, thoughts, and actions through my work.
What sets me apart in my field is my quickness of thought and action. I’m likely one of the fastest creatives you’ll collaborate with, earning me the nickname ‘The Flash’ among my peers. Beyond speed, I bring a deep passion, meticulous attention to detail, unwavering motivation, a team-oriented approach, and, hopefully, a dash of humor.
How do you think about luck?
Luck is 80% of the battle, but you cannot stay stagnant and hope luck comes your way.
Many people go through life without ever asking for a raise, seeking a promotion, or fighting for what they truly want. While a lot of success is influenced by who you know and the opportunities that come your way, you can only discover those opportunities by actively putting yourself out there. For example, Tom Holland expressed his desire to be Spider-Man in an interview long before he landed the role. However, he didn’t achieve this dream by sitting at home and waiting—he worked tirelessly for it. The same principle applies to anyone reading this: you must put in the effort and actively pursue your goals to capitalize on the luck that comes your way.
