Today we’d like to introduce you to Reynna Romo
Hi Reynna, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am an herbalist indigenous to southwest United States and Northern Mexico. What I do today starts with overcoming behavioral health/substance use issues and reconnecting with my heritage. While living on the streets of Santa Monica, I found momentum for working with plants and community. There are many different herbal allies growing on the west coast, so I started getting to know them and using them to help with physical and spiritual ailments. Needing connection to maintain a healthy recovery guided me to working in treatment and creating a small business out of my passion for ancestral wisdom and holistic wellness. I use whatever platform I may have to advocate for co-occurring disorders, homelessness, and indigenous affairs.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road is everchanging. Some days it’s smooth and wide while it is narrow and rocky on others. Struggles have been minor so far and more of a learning process than anything. I am constantly put in a position to think outside the box to make things happen and I enjoy doing it. Asking for help with ideas or navigating my business is the best thing I have learned how to do. It takes a village and I rely on that as much as I put in to it.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My brand is Desert Rey’s Apothecary. It offers products and services from a cultural and holistic perspective. This is a platform to learn, teach, and make a clear stand of Ancient lifestyles lost in new age adaptations. I stick to using herbs and spiritual practices from my ancestors and their historical contact with other cultures. Ancestral ties are a huge ingredient missing in modern spirituality. A portion of all proceeds go toward Indigenous movements and homeless/drug treatment causes. Herbs used are home grown, mindfully foraged in natural surroundings, or gathered from small business gardens. Every product is made with non toxic and organic materials. Our efforts are made to pull away from mass production which hurt plant species and the environment alike. Knowing where things come from allow us to have higher quality products and a more aligned relationship with Nature.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Something people might not know about me is that I’m ambidextrous. I write with my left hand, but could switch if it got tired.
