Today we’d like to introduce you to Porsha Henderson.
Hi Porsha, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always wanted to bartend, but I was scared I wouldn’t remember anything. I worked a job I hated for about a year, and when I got laid off, I knew it was God’s way of separating me from something that wasn’t for me. I was on unemployment, but as it was about to end, I didn’t want to go back to that field. A friend of mine went through bartending school, and I decided to just go for it. I took the course and was working within two weeks. I faked it till I made it, and now I teach people how to bartend with no experience.
I got into content creation because I saw others doing it and thought it looked cool. I picked up my iPhone and started recording my experiences. I wanted to be a content creator, so I just did it. Betting on myself, taking risks, and creating opportunities has been the foundation of my journey.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. In the beginning I lacked confidence and second guessed myself. I was cared I wouldn’t remember drink recipes. I had to push past that fear and trust that I got this. Content creation also had its struggles. There were times I felt like no one was paying attention until boom I got a viral video and everybody was looking. I had to stay consistent even when the results weren’t immediate.
A challenge I’m facing now is landing more brand deals. Being overlooked can be frustrating but I have to keep getting peoples faces. Timing is everything and the right opportunities will come when they need to.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a bartender, content creator and meditation coach. I’m known for making bartending feel fun and approachable. I take pride in showing people that they can always learn new skills and create opportunities from them. One of the things I’m most proud of is building my brand from the ground up. I started with just an iPhone and idea, and now I’ve worked with businesses, taught classes and created a platform that people trust
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I have a few. Number 1 resilience. I’ve had moments of doubt and rejection but I never let that stop me. I adjust and keeping forward. The second would be confidence. Even when I don’t fully know what I was doing I carried myself like I did. Now it’s no longer faking it, I know I belong in those spaces. And lastly, creativity. I don’t just follow trends, I put my own spin on things.
