Today we’d like to introduce you to Paragraph Taylor
Hi Paragraph, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
It takes me a paragraph to say what most people say in a sentence. I work a funeral home doing nearly everything mortuary some days, and I farm & make or play music for the remaining ones. Both activities I help share pain to heal any involved. My band I started with my partner has played 222 shows across North America, and we stay at the farm & create anytime between shows we have available.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Both industries I’m in, music and mortuary, test patience frequently with ebbs & flows of hurry up & wait. Remembering A) the breath that ties us all together & B) that both vocations are a blessing to be called to provide keeps one centered, grateful, empathetic, and present at all times.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I play guitar in two original acts, primarily with my artist, farmer & DJ spouse Lillith Taylor on vibraphone & me on guitar while we both sing. That apocalyptic industrial duo (& sometimes more when friends are available) act is called “ManifestiV”, which I write for, manage online, and perform with, alongside another permanently 5-piece industrial nü-metal act based in Dallas called Secret Of Boris. I don’t sing in that one, however it moonlights as tribute bands to both nine inch nails (“mr self destruct” is that one, named after the NIN record ‘The Downward Spiral”s first song & namesake 94-95 tour from whence we get our pre-show cornstarching & attaching VHS tape to every mix & keyboard stand available) and Limp Bizkit (“significant others” named after Limp’s 2nd album, where I both play guitar & use it as a turntable), both of which I do sing with as needed. Two other tribute acts I’ve sung in before were “mOBSCENE”, as Marilyn Manson, then “Krautstein”, background singing while playing drums & operating electronics tributing Rammstein’s heaviest songs, yet they’re nowhere near as active as the others. I also have provided two soundtracks for the DFW indie flick house Little Spark Films, for 2020’s The Torturer & 2023’s Vicemares, while working on a third for 2025’s Death World with electronic guru, dear friend, Secret Of Boris music video director & ManifestiV synthesist Lcn1.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Guitar was, aside from novice vibraphone, the last instrument I picked up, even though it’s now the instrument I’m sought after to play the most. I began piano & synthesizers when I was five, drumming when I was twelve, and then reluctantly picked up guitar at fifteen. I always thought it was for the egotistical narcissists that were all “look at me!” haha. However, once a generation of guitarists that were humble & in it for the deep art emerged, like Munky & Head, Kurt Cobain, Dimebag Darrell, Adam Jones, Robin Finck, John 5,Wes Borland and more, I had confidence to tackle the instrument that supplied the bite none of the others quite provided, while remaining humble doing so.
