Today we’d like to introduce you to Omisha Chaitanya.
Hi Omisha, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Growing up in the digital age, I started honing my skills in recording and production, before I even knew what those words truly meant, within Garageband and Audacity to record my original music. My first digital release, “BOY”, was recorded and produced entirely on Garageband by my 15 year old self. A decade later, this passion has matured into a career where I currently work as a freelance sound designer, music producer, recording engineer, mixing engineer, and mastering engineer within NYC for local and international clients, resulting in credits in massive productions across music, film, television, and Broadway, such as Wicked (2024), Honey Don’t (2025), The Great Gatsby (2023 Original Cast Album Recording), Evergreen (2024) by Julius Rodriguez, Rust (2024) by Misuser and Ben Roter and many more.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of the hardest parts of turning a passion into a career is burn out. I think retaining that spark has been the most vital aspect of my career. When protected, it is something that translates into the creative and technical work I do and is felt. Going from long, inconsistent days working in a studio session to long-term record-making to project deadlines, there is a lot on the shoulders of the producers, engineers, and technicians working tirelessly behind-the-scenes of our favourite productions. It is very easy to overworked and thus feel overwhelmed. Taking weekend trips, scheduling in breaks, and then returning back to my projects has been the mantra in keeping the creative spark alive and well.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an electronic music producer and mastering engineer, specializing in sound design and digital orchestrations. Those titles encompass a lot of different skillsets and thus leads to a huge variety of work, which keeps my job very interesting. I am currently working on orchestrating the upcoming Club Chris Tour with Chris Olsen & Ryan Trainor happening across North America, producing a record for Chloe Cook, mastering for several different artists, and engineering for Season 4 of ‘Inside Power Station’ for NYC Media. I am so proud of the diversity in mediums that I work within and I believe being able to connect with the artists perspective while providing a technical expertise is what has allowed me to succeed in each project.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
New York City is home to me, and working in the music industry here makes me feel so close to the long continuum of artists that have passed through this city throughout history. While it is not an easy place to live, it is an extremely special city. The birth of garage house coming from here, specifically, is a genre that is a huge touchstone for me in my creative work. The long history of recording technology and studios across NYC while working at Power Station which has existed in the center of that history is something that is always in the forefront of my mind. I recognize my place in this continuum and move with an awareness of that in my work.
