Today we’d like to introduce you to Najee Rayne.
Hi Najee, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have always been an artist. I’ve always been creative along the way I have changed my route. I began as a student trying to balance her art and work after college. I decided to take time off to study for my lsat but when Covid hit, I decided to go full fledge into my dreams. That hasn’t changed, but the route in which I’ve decided to do it has I never wanted to be signed so I’ve been working as an independent artist and with that being said my resources have run out since they come from me. My 20s have taught me that if you need anything, you must have courage and a plan. I have both now so I wake up every single day and I work hard to connect with my audience – The one I built the past 13 years on social media. But now I show up with a different light because I’ve learned a lot. My lessons have hit me hard. I am humbled. My current goal is to burn myself in a way that allows me to run a business by marketing myself. Eventually, that will include Music. I’m excited to share my new sounds but first I’mma share my energy.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I think life is not easy but I’ve made it harder for myself. Some things you can’t control , like when I first released music there was a huge bump on the road. Another artist “Najee” a jazz musicians management reached out to me for “Copy Right infringement “ I was told I had to add a second name to my og artist name “Najee”. My birth first name is Najee and the musicians name is Jerome but his timing and talent had me beat. I had to delete all my music off streaming platforms and reupload with a new name. Saddened by the pause, but challenged with a need for a new stage name. I had the opportunity to reinvent myself and I am extremely grateful for it. Now looking back I was far too frustrated for something that turned out to be a beautiful beginning. RAYNE was my addition choice, and it’s brought me nothing but growth. So I’d say yes to both, it’s been struggle but we also find ways to smooth things out. I’ve learned alot along the way .
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a songwriter and performer. I know how to story tell through music and put on a show – it is my specialty. I’m known for my outgoing ways consistency and physique – it ties into my branding as the total package. I’m extremely proud of my ability to pivot and thrive through versatility- I also believe it’s what sets me apart from others.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My advice is that you must make a choice, create your reality or accept the one you are given. I wish I knew how important that choice was the day I decided to follow my dreams. It would have lead me here sooner. Put your blinders on and remember all you have is yourself and your thoughts everything else leaves eventually. Be kind to both, & trust your gut.
