Today we’d like to introduce you to Naikey Lenescat
Hi Naikey, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey began with curiosity. As a creative, I always wondered how far I could take my career or passions, but it often felt out of reach. In 2017, I connected with my mentor, Fena Fenelon, and that changed everything. She not only showed me what was possible but also helped me carve out a path I never would have been able to envision on my own. Today, I run a successful creative agency for small businesses and have worked on personal creative projects that have connected me with incredible people—connections I never would have made if I hadn’t embarked on this journey.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
This journey has definitely been anything but smooth for me. I’d describe it more as stumbling my way through. I navigated entrepreneurship by making a lot of mistakes, but each mistake came with valuable lessons. One of the biggest challenges was approaching things creatively without enough strategic or business-minded thinking, which led to a lot of failures—especially financially—at times when I really couldn’t afford it. The road has been bumpy, but I can honestly say it’s starting to smooth out, thanks to the support I’ve received over the years and my faith in God, who’s been my constant guide.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I would describe myself as a creative specializing in branding, digital communications, and marketing. I started my career as a graphic designer, which is what I’m most known for, but I’ve since expanded into strategic brand marketing. I take great pride in the work I’ve done with small businesses, especially when their projects can compete in quality and communication with larger companies—that brings me so much joy.
What sets me apart is my blend of creative thinking and strategic approach. Many creatives aren’t strategic, and many strategists aren’t creative, but I’ve developed both skills. This combination allows me to not only visualize and create but also plan and target effectively for businesses that may not have the resources for high-level talent. It’s something I’ve grown into and seen tremendous benefits from, both in my work and in life.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
During the COVID-19 crisis, I really stopped creating. I tried, but I just couldn’t. Projects passed me by, and mentally, I just wasn’t in the right space to produce anything. The biggest lesson I learned from that time was that it’s okay to take a break and let your mind rest, especially when there’s chaos around you. Now, I apply that to my life by making sure I take time to rest. I compartmentalize my work and avoid working nonstop. By managing my time better, I’m able to create at a higher level.
