Today we’d like to introduce you to Mohammed Qamar
Hi Mohammed, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was a boy with a dream of creating games that would benefit the lives of others, just as the ones I grew up playing did for me. They were experiences that were not only fun to play but had something meaningful to say. I looked up to the people who worked on these sorts of games, and I wanted to be just like them. I still do.
As I grew up, I realized this dream could not be achieved through complacency and minimal effort. It would require every fiber of my being: long nights, early mornings, and 80-hour weeks filled with frustration, breakthroughs, learning, and retrying. I believe that just as muscles are built by pushing them past their current abilities, we must also train our minds by going beyond our psychological limits to raise the bar for what we can accomplish.
Many years later, I’m a man looking at my idols and feeling adjacent to them. It’s a feeling I never thought would happen in this lifetime. Looking at them, I found the inspiration to keep pushing forward.
That’s how I got started, and that’s how I’ll end.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No road ever starts out smooth. My path was like walking barefoot down a gravel road covered in fog. As I progressed, building my career, obstacles would appear out of nowhere, emerging from the ground. Despite these challenges, my goals shone like a bright light within the fog, indicating that this was the only way forward.
I struggled with getting interviews and networking, often sending out hundreds of cold emails and portfolio review requests with little response. The uncertainty and constant effort took a toll on my sleep, as I would lie awake thinking about my work and strategizing on how to reach my next goals. Each rejection and setback was a new hurdle to overcome, but I kept pushing forward, driven by the belief that every step, no matter how difficult, brought me closer to my dreams.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a Game Developer specializing in Technical Art and Design. This specialization is a double entendre, as it encompasses the engineering, art, and design aspects of game development. I’m known for my versatility, and ability to seamlessly integrate technical precision with creative vision.
I’m most proud of my ability to bridge the gap between artists and engineers, ensuring that both aesthetics and functionality are held to the highest standard. My projects often involve creating intricate environments, optimizing performance, and designing innovative tools. What sets me apart is my holistic approach to game development, where I leverage my diverse skill set to tackle challenges from multiple angles, delivering polished and immersive experiences.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
The game development industry is on the brink of some exciting changes over the next 5-10 years. One major shift will be the rise of cloud gaming, making high-quality gaming more accessible without the need for high-end hardware. This evolution will allow players to enjoy seamless experiences across different devices, leveling the playing field and opening up new possibilities for game developers.
We’re also going to see creativity reach new heights with procedural content generation. This will enable developers to create vast, dynamic worlds with intricate details, enhancing the overall gaming experience. The rise of indie games will continue to disrupt the industry, bringing fresh, innovative ideas and unique storytelling that push the boundaries of traditional game development.
AI will play a crucial role in improving the engineering side of game development, from optimizing performance to automating testing and debugging. This will streamline development processes and allow developers to focus more on creativity and design.
Every year is a great year for games, and the future looks even brighter as these trends continue to evolve. I’m excited to see how these changes will shape the industry and drive us to create even more impactful and meaningful experiences.
