Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Blaising
Hi Megan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started in the mental health field and always found ways to write on the side – as a contributing writer or otherwise. Fast forward a few years – I decided to step away from direct care as I wanted to generate impact but on a more macro-level. I was fortunate enough to find a role that allows me to do just that a while merging my passions.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. That said, I don’t believe that anything worth having comes easily – so all the lessons learned along the way are well worth the turmoil. Most of the obstacles I have faced surfaced amidst my personal journey. These challenges have reinforced my beliefs, faith, and character; provided me with a new lens in which I view life; taught me how to properly balance work and life; and perhaps most importantly taught me to fall in love with myself. It is that love for self, that confidence in my abilities, that allows me to take risks and avidly pursue my ambitions.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a Proposal Writer Lead at Elevance Health, Inc. focusing on Specialty Products. Generally, I assist with the writing process for all Medicaid-related opportunities. This role is a unique blend of continuing to make an impact on a larger scale and my love for writing. I am also the author of the book Blunts, Bullets and Belligerence: A Memoir Remembering the Students America Forgot. I don’t know what I am known for. However, I hope one day I am known for something meaningful and for being a quality woman. I am proud of a few things I have accomplished in my life, not just achievements but things I have overcome. I believe what sets me apart from others is my joy. With joy you lose the care of judgement and the care of losing what was to embrace what could be. There is a lot that comes with the anchoring of joy. If you have it, protect it at all costs.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I enjoy the great restaurants and the beautiful nature trails – and we do have some pretty significant world-class events that are hosted here. All of those are great attributes!
